Kirk retreated to the Enterprise in hopes of finding an empty ship at this hour where he could sit down and bask in the hum of computers as he lost himself in thoughts he didn't wish to ponder when in the company of others. Instead, he found Uhura standing on the bridge, looking...angry. Or, was she upset? If another member of his crew had been sent home-- First Gaila, then Nurse Chapel. Who next, Spock? Was that why she looked so furious?
