The Angelus ordeal still has her majorly spun -- guilt for not having done more, for letting Damon take the reins even if he did a spectacular job. Anger at the aliens. Anger at herself. Buffy Summers, Cheater. She doesn't like the ring to it.
So she buries her anger and guilt in a doomed attempt to make chocolate chip cookies. We join our sparky heroine towards the end of her misadventure as Buffy clicks the tablet on and -- with a smudge of flour across one cheek -- addresses the city at large.
"So, just how bad is it if you forget to add the baking powder?"
Some very miserably flat, poorly cooked cookies are scattered across a baking sheet just beside her elbow. The kitchen's a mess. She's a mess. Everything's a mess.
