"They can." Mary can't help thinking it's sweet that he's making this kind of effort for the first time, and not entirely unlike her Thanksgiving gathering with the boys. They'd been too young to remember celebrating anything with her before her death, and as adults it had them confused as to what her expectations were of them. She assumes that this young man has the same concerns; he'd like to do things the 'right' way now that he's in the mood to give it a try.
