001 - [video] / arrival post

“Okay, I don't know what kind of a sick joke this is, but I can promise you right now that I ain't laughing.”

Thirty seconds ago, Gunn hadn't been in this – weird-ass, mechanical place. He had very much been stepping into the lobby of the Hyperion Hotel, sack of cheeseburgers in hand. The food was, of course, gone ('Fourteen dollars down the drain, dammit,' he thought briefly) and his stomach was oddly twisted, clenched and upset. He didn't like it.

He turned immediately in a full circle, hands curling into tight fists at his sides, looking for something to lunge at. “I swear, if this is some pasty-ass demon's idea of a joke...”

Dammit.

Fred was hungry. He just wanted to bring her the godforsaken cheeseburgers.

He was met with a stunning sort of silence as he turned that served to put him on edge more than at ease, and he lifted his fists to about chest-height, stepping to the side.

“Come on out, whoever – or whatever – you are--” he started, before his hip smacked against the pedestal that the tablet was sitting on, and Gunn nearly yelled out loud out of surprise, and then frustration. He dropped his fists and snatched the tablet up, hastily flipping it open and looking for a way to communicate with the device. “You better be some sort of fancy cellphone, and I better get some sort of reception in here,” he grumbled, tapping on the screen a little harshly and looking for some sort of number pad to dial out with. "Hello? Can anyone hear this thing?"

He was about ready to give up and throw the little device when his eyes cut up and he realized that a door had opened. 'Okay. Liking this place less and less as time goes on,' he thought, and instead of throwing the tablet, squeezed it a little too-tightly in his hands as he started out in the hallway. There was going to be hell to pay if his food was cold by the time he got home.

[ faith knows that feeling. only with her it's more 'people think i should still be in prison' and 'i want to hit wes in the face more than usual'. ]

...Freaking timeline bullshit. Guessing the whole vamp out of the cage in the basement deal isn't ringing any bells, huh?

She gave him an apologetic glance and nodded. "Yep. I'm on the tram now, I'll be there in a couple minutes. Hang on, okay? Maybe I can get you burgers this time, and we can talk over food?"

There was a question she knew she should ask him. It was completely formulated in her mind, but she couldn't bring herself to do it just yet. She'd wait until the basics were laid down.

"I haven't seen the aliens, but Fred says they appeared once looking like hamsters, which sounds like something from a Saturday morning cartoon if you ask me," Lorne says, laughing a little. Then he looks more serious. "No probing, though they're definitely trying to mess with us. There've been all these ghosts floating around the city. They don't talk, just stand around and look creepy. The hamsters are up to something, and it's not gonna end well. I feel better knowing we've got you on our team, I can say that for sure."

[ she's not too upset, so gunn just gets a quiet laugh and the vague sense faith is shaking her head ruefully right now. ]

Faith. Sorry about the whole 'this is your future' thing, it's kind of a crapshoot here.

"Nope, nothing like that, thankfully. Actually, that part's pretty cool. You can get anything you want out of these matter-replication things called hatches. I'll have to show you one when I get there." She looked out the window. "Which is just about now, so see you in a minute!"

She jogged from the tram to the Sanctuary. As bad as the timing was, she was really glad to see Charles. It felt like forever, and the group didn't feel right without him...in fact, it had been so different since Wolfram and Hart- she almost felt she'd lost him there already. It would be good to really see him again.

She headed straight for the main entrance, figuring that was the direction he'd gone.

Pretty much. Like I said, you picked a wicked jacked up time to drop in, too. Got this whole ghost thing going down.

"There was. Till I came along." Spike crosses his arms. "And I didn't say we're 'buddies.' I just know him. We work together sometimes. As for where you are, it's a city called Taxon and unfortunately, it seems like there's no way out. We're working on it."

She grinned as soon as she saw him, and ran up to him. After a barely noticeable moment of hesitation, she stepped in the extra couple feet and gave him a hug.

"Hey, yourself," she said, pulling back and smiling up at him. "I shouldn't say I'm glad to see you, considering the circumstances, but I really am. Sorry you got dragged in here too, but- well, welcome to Taxon. The only giant city with in a cave with fake sunlight that I know of."

She realized her hand was still on his arm, and she squeezed it a little before letting go. "Maybe we should head to Caritas. I can try to explain the millions of questions you've gotta have on the way over?"

Lorne doesn't mention why it is that he found Taxon so easy to accept: whatever its downsides, Cordy and Fred are alive here. Angel, Spike, Wesley, and Gunn are alive here, for that matter, when in his reality it's pretty likely they're dead. He just says, "No one says you have to accept it. That's your own choice, though acceptance'll make it easier on you. I've been here almost two months, and I'm wet behind the ears compared to some people. Cordy's been here for over a year now."

If Wesley has noticed a reticence he ignores it in favour of a happy reunion. "The whole gang's here now. Angel, Cordelia, Lorne, Fred and so on. I know it's a lot to process, considering the fact that we've been abducted to a strange city and there are divergent timelines, but nevertheless, welcome."

"Closer to Pylea, only with mindless Extras who don't want to sell us as cattle."

Thankfully, it was nothing close to the hell dimensions Angel's stepped foot in. Sad that he can actually pluralize dimension.

Yes, people can hear you. Unfortunately, our captors are unlikely to come out, come out wherever they are. How long has it been since you arrived?

She shrugs, mildly. "It works, I guess." For once, she's not in the mood to argue. Seeing her brother's ghost has really shaken her up. "Has anyone given you the 'welcome to Taxon' speech yet?"
