Three days in this dank, godforsaken tomb. It was three days too long without blood, as far as Katherine was concerned. There wasn’t even a single rat in sight; she was so hungry she’d probably lower herself to eating vermin by now. With a quiet exhalation, the vampire slouched against the clammy rock of the tomb’s wall, losing her balance as the solid rock behind her back disappeared abruptly and the darkness was replaced with artificial light.

"What the—!" Katherine hissed and braced one hand against the floor, bowing her head to shield her eyes from the sudden brightness. Slowly, Katherine raised her chin and blinked at the chamber amidst her hair, bewildered. This was a far cry from the musty tomb she’d occupied just a moment ago. How? A moment of sheer, wide-eyed panic gripped at her as she immediately considered the Originals, but a few deep breaths returned her ability to think straight. It couldn’t be. Damon had imprisoned her in that damn tomb, sealed by the Bennett witches’ spell; no vampire could get out once they stepped inside. It had to be someone else, and Katherine was willing to bet they couldn’t be worse than Klaus.

Despite her blood-starved body protesting at every move, Katherine straightened from her slouch and cast a critical eye down at herself. She was a mess; still wearing the wrinkled, knee-length black dress, dirt smudging her skin that had taken on a slightly sickly, ashen pallor – she could only imagine the dark circles bound to sit under her eyes. Her straightened hair hung down her shoulders, a curtain of limp frizz instead of the mass of curls she normally sported. She scoffed at the state of her and cursed Damon all over again. Caroline and that backstabber Lucy, too, while she was at it.

But she had a more immediate objective now, such as getting out and feeding. Oh, and a shower.

"Very well. I’ll bite," Katherine finally drawled wryly, smirking at her pun as she glanced about. "Hello? Anybody home?"

Preferably someone filled with nice, juicy veins full of thick, warm blood. Humming a soft sound of amusement at the thought, Katherine wet her dry lips and addressed the empty room again, her attitude remarkably lackadaisical for such an evidently unwell person in an uncertain situation.

"Nobody obviously taught you people manners. It’s rude to keep a lady waiting."

[ so this is just... silence. because damon knows that voice, that face. he hasn't seen her since the 1800's, but how could he forget? (especially with elena around, now.) ]

[ elena sees this and can't believe her eyes. that face is hers. it's hers but the girl is not her, not at all, and she's got a sinking feeling she knows who it really is.

she's not about to respond to this - or at least, that's not her intention. but unfortunately for her, the tablet accidentally clicks onto the voice function in her hands, and katherine is likely to hear elena attempt to get her (currently unneeded) breathing under control. ]

[ elena is not going to take this well. perhaps stefan should've told her katherine was back after all. ]

[ oh dear god, damon. ]

Katherine.

[...There's a pause as Katherine tries to figure out what the hell is this even. Damon, you're so not Katherine's favorite person right now, so excuse her if she's a bit short and snappy.]

You would know, Damon.

Actually, I wouldn't. That's what happens when people haven't seen each other in a long, long time.

I have to say, memory flattered you. Were you always this haggard?

[First Damon, now Stefan? Oh, this is just too rich. Katherine's pinpointed the source of the sound to be that little gadget on the pedestal not too far away. That is, if you're not a starved vampire. She isn't mustering up the strength quite yet to pick herself up and walk over to the thing. She knows Stefan can hear her just fine like this.]

Stefan? This is certainly a new twist in the story. Is this an upgrade or something?

[She means the tomb, but is blissfully unaware Stefan has no idea what she's talking about. This will be fun.]

[The vampire hearing picks up on the distressed breathing on the other end just fine. Katherine is just achy and starving and not in the mood to walk over to the pedestal to pick up her device. With a roll of her eyes, she speaks up wryly.]

If you insist on simply just panting at me, I reserve the right to charge you dollar ninety-nine per minute for having to listen.

[Another pause. Genuine confusion, this time.]

I have no idea as to what you're talking about. Did you empty your liquor cabinet all in one go and forget the past few weeks in your drunken stupor?

Oh, fuck you.

[Very polite, Lexi.]

[ she knows she should turn the tablet off, go find stefan or damon and ask if it's even really who she thinks it is. but who else could it be? who else has she - does she, apparently - share a face with?

she should turn it off, but she's paralyzed with fear. how is it possible? how can katherine be here? what does she want? what will she do to elena if she finds out about her?

so she doesn't turn it off. she just stares at it where she dropped it on the bed, as if katherine will come out through the screen and attack her if she comes any closer. ]

[ stefan takes immediate notice of the fact that she doesn't come up to the tablet. that's...odd, given that the last time they interacted. which for him, was at mayor lockwood's wake. ]

Depends on what the downgrade is.

[Ew. She knows that voice. Yes, Lexi, she stalked you with Stefan in your precious Bon Jovi concert.]

Ugh, any appeal I might've begun to feel towards this new development just crashed and burned. What are you doing here?

Haven't you heard patience is a virtue?

[The feed continues to offer Stefan just the view of the chamber's ceiling while Katherine, unseen by him, sighs and rolls her eyes. Hunger makes for cranky vampires, it seems.]

I'm really not a fan of mind games, thank you, unless I'm the one playing them. The tomb? The dark, dank one under the church with the inconvenient witchy spell on it? Ring a bell, already?

Certainly. It was just never one of my strongest suits. What exactly am I supposed to be patient for?

[ and now she's completely lost him, but he's sensible enough to lock the feed. (unlike damon.) ]

You were never in the tomb, Katherine.

[The brief fumbling and light rustling (cloth, perhaps?) on the other end are audible to Katherine, but she isn't really overly concerned about the cause of them. Right now, she's just biding her time, trying to gather enough strength to figure out how to get out of this strange chamber. Still, she can't resist putting in one more comment.]

Not going to say anything? Who knows, we could become friends.

The usual set of people who tell all the new arrivals everything about Taxon. Unless someone's already explained?

[Katherine scoffs audibly.]

Not until you and Damon--

[She stops abruptly, frowning to herself. Something is not quite adding up, here. Stefan and Damon both seem to not remember the recent developments in Mystic Falls. Katherine is hesitant to say anything more until she figures out why. Hence, change of topics.]

What is this place, exactly?

I was greeted by a few familiar faces. But let's just say that they're not best pleased with me right now, so any explanations were neglected. Taxon? The name of this place, I presume.
