"That's a definite plus. Losing your memory seems a little overpriced for getting to wear a poodle skirt," the animator said with a snort. She gave Stefan another quick once-over, being careful to avoid meeting his eyes. There was something off about him. He certainly pinged her dead-radar, he felt like a vampire, and yet... what was it that felt just the tiniest bit different? It was like a faint humming along her skin.

"Question for you," she began cautiously, still making an effort to keep from looking into his eyes. Thankfully, she had a lot of practice. She put both hands up as if to show she meant no harm, not wanting to come off any more accusatory than she absolutely had to. "Not to pry, but I'm curious, here. You're a vampire. Why do you have a heartbeat?"
