[location: John Everton's House] [OPEN TO ALL!] BLOCK PARTY!!!
The time had come. Charlotte left John in charge of setting up the bar, giving him only the one request that he have a decent selection of beer, and did the work of dialing up the food. She knew she was going way over board. For all she knew no one might show up, even though she'd gotten a bit of a response to her invite. How could people resist, though. Food, drink, Dean's music, kittens? Okay, and an ex-vampire, but that wasn't his fault.
Pushing that thought away, she continued laying out the food and the carefully crafted warding spells that would protect it from the kittens. They had been given run of most of the patio, but not the yard, and not the food area. That meant they'd still be popping in and out of people's laps, but at least they wouldn't do it to plates.
When everything was ready, Charlotte ran up to change into skinny jeans, a crisp white button down and a ridiculously shiny pair of cowboy boots. Not unlike Dawn, not that she knew it, Charlotte was having too much fun with the fashion options the replicators afforded. Properly armored for the event, she headed back to the patio to wait for their first guests.
OOC: This is an open event, folks, anyone should feel free to tag in, even if they just discover the party. Start a new thread with a label if you want or just tag in on another thread. Feel free to hop around, too. IT'S A PARTY, PEOPLE! Also, this will go on as long as people are interested, so backtag all ya like. We know people will be in and out all weekend. Have fun, drink all the booze.

When Charlotte approaches him he smiles, glad to see a familiar face. "Hello, Charlotte. Thank you for the invitation."

She looked over at him for a moment. "I have to stop back at your shop soon. There are a few things I'd like to have in the house that I just don't trust the hatch for. I'm hoping you have them in stock."

He's glad she's offered another, far safes, avenue of conversation. "The shop seems to be well stocked still, which is a blessing. I'm not sure what to do about replacements - there seems to be something oxymoronic about ordering magical supplies from a technological object."

She did agree with his observation about the hatches. "It makes me nuts. I've managed to get some living plants, small ones, which I can plant outside, but there's no way to have a real garden fast enough. Not a useful one. And a good crystal for focus should have formed slowly, building on itself, not....popped out of a machine."

Plants and crystals - now here's a conversation better suited to Giles' experience. "I have a number of crystals that should suit you. As for plants I've had slightly better luck. The secret seems to be in being as specific as possible. Asking for dried damellia sinensis, for example, seems to result in a better cuppa then simply asking for dried tea leaves."

She nodded firmly at his example. "And when I asked for an obsidian knife, even though I could see it clearly, there was something just...off about it. It could be my imagination. Maybe I didn't have the right image in my mind." She shrugged. "Still makes me nervous when I want to work with elemental energy. I'd like to know I'm going to be able to shut things down when I'm ready."

"I don't practice much magic," not anymore, and not if it's less then life or death, "but I'm glad to hear you're so responsible. There are too many who focus on the end goal without understanding the basic parts first. It gets messy." And sometimes people die.

Charlotte exhaled slowly. "I grew up in a family where the Machiavellian ideals were held tight and true. Only, they could all turn you into a newt." She glanced over at Giles. "Most of my magical ethics come from thinking what my father would do and then doing the exact opposite. It's worked pretty well."
