Dean's words might as well be a knife piercing Mary's already fragile heart. She knows that it's different for him without Sam - it's different for her, too - but they haven't talked about that. She was expecting him to be a little less blunt if it ever did come up, so she winces instinctively, immediately trying to recover and act like that didn't bother her at all.

"As long as you're happy," she says quietly, ready for this conversation to be over. "I'll let you get back to them."
