Even without a century's worth of cynicism loaded onto his attitude, Ethan hates the thought of someone thinking he's afraid. That's why he came to this party to celebrate the new year (though, does anyone even know what the year is?). To prove that he doesn't afraid of anything isn't afraid of some intimidation - ignoring, for his own sake, that said intimidation was by a vampire.
