VI: [ voice ] Power Outage

[ good thing Piper's already done with preparing the food before crazy things started happening to Taxon. ]

Okay, I don't know what's going on with the tablets or the hatches, but, um... is there anyone out there who can tell me where the makeshift bunkers can be found? And also with carrying the food to the bunkers? There's... um, quite a lot of them and I would appreciate anyone's help very much.

Spade turns up shortly after; he'd made a hard copy map soon after arriving, so even if the tablet glitches, he won't be totally lost. Besides, he'd committed most of the city layout to memory his first few weeks of wandering around.

He's gotten rid of his jacket, though he still has his tie and his fedora. It's getting hotter, though, noticeably, which will make moving the food all the better.

"Hey. You the lady looking for some help?"

Her sleeves are drawn up to her elbows because of the heat, but Piper tries hard not to focus on that. She has a clipboard in hand and is making an inventory of everything she's cooked, and before her are boxes upon boxes of bottles and cans that she's ordered her staff of Extras at Quake to prepare, under her supervision.

She looks up from her task when she hears the voice. "Hello," she greets. "Yes, that will be me. I'm Piper Halliwell." She offers her hand to him.

He returns it, his grip firm but not overbearing. "Samuel Spade. Where are we hauling it to?"

Piper glances at her clipboard again. "It seems we have a bunker over at Osten. Caritas, I've been told? We need at least one-fourth of all these things transferred to that place."

Spade nods. "That's one of the reinforced places, yeah. You know Miz Frye? She's been tryin' to coordinate some others."

"...Miz Frye." Then she brightens up. "Oh! Kaylee! Yeah, I know her. She's actually the reason why I thought of helping with the food. I wasn't able to help build the bunkers but food I can manage."

"Well, food's important, kid, especially with the hatches playing 'zap the sucker' with anyone who tries to use 'em." Spade bends to take a box. He's in good shape for his age, strong if not quite athletic. "So. Caritas first."

Piper absently rubs her own bracelet, as it had also zapped her earlier when she tried to hatch something earlier. "Yes, please. Do you know where it is?"

"Enough to find my way, yeah." He smiles a little. "I'll make it before the world ends, I imagine."

"I've no doubt you will," she says. "Thanks, Mr. Spade. Take care now."

"You too, ma'am. I'll be in and out for the boxes, if you need more help." And, without more small talk, he gets to work.
