[ Location: The Nest ] [ Accidental Video ] Done the 50s twice now

The glitch is over, and Godric is sitting alone on the roof of the nest, contemplating the past two weeks. He wonders what it means that even in the fantasies of aliens, he still had a horrible childhood. He wonders if the glitch would have bothered him less if they'd made him an average teenager with an average life, rather than a too-young veteran who'd escaped to a bloody war because it was preferable to his home life. Probably. Maybe one day, they'll uproot his entire world in a way that he'll enjoy.

(He isn't holding his breath, so to speak.)

He pulls out the picture of Sookie and stares it, wondering why he was left with it, unaware the tablet is recording.

He shakes his head. "No, not long. About two months. I take it you've been here longer?"

"Over a year now." He doesn't sound proud of it; he sounds resigned. "Do you have loved ones here, or people you know?" While they're on the subject.

Stefan can't even begin to imagine what it was like to still be in Taxon after a year, to have endured all those past glitches he'd heard about from other people who were trapped here.

"My older brother, Damon, is here and two others from back home."

Godric's gaze sharpens, and he looks at Stefan with new eyes.

"Damon? I met him not long ago, in the woods. Are the others from your home vampires as well?" What? It's his self-appointed job to know how many vampires are in Taxon, just in case they make trouble. Or in case someone makes trouble for them.

Stefan's eyes widen at such a bold, out of left field question. He wasn't expecting that, though perhaps he should've. Damon did tell him that he met another vampire who could tell who wasn't Eric Northman, one who looked like a teenager and had a tribal-sounding name. You're off your game today, Stef.

Quickly, he locks the feed, though it takes him a moment to respond.

"Um, yes. I'm a vampire like my brother and I apologize if Damon offended you in any way when you met him. My brother can be a bit rude when he wants to be." Not five minutes with the secret out of the bag and he's already apologizing for Damon. Must be a new record. "Elena Gilbert is human, but Lexi is a vampire like Damon and I."

Godric chuckles. "It's quite alright. He made an earnest effort to be rude, but I'm not easily offended."

Rather, he found Damon amusing and somewhat fascinating. And he reminded Godric of Eric.

"I apologize if I shocked you with my question; your kind seems more secretive than mine. But I do make it my business to know all the vampires in Taxon at any given time." Or at least know of them.

"Damon usually does. 'Nice' is a something of a foreign concept for him."

That is said fondly, because Stefan came to accept a long time ago that this is just how Damon is. You take him as he is or you go out of your way to avoid him at all costs. Stefan's done both and tends to prefer the former over the latter.

"We prefer not to be known; people don't take too kindly to vampires where we're from. We've had some nasty run-ins with hunters and people who are afraid of what they don't understand."

Stefan hesitates, then asks, "Are you an elder?" Because he knows a lot more about how vampires worked in the Old World than he lets on and has told Damon.

The two of them should bond sometime over their respective rude vampires.

"That isn't a term we use, but I'm considered an ancient according to the standards of my kind. In my world, vampires are known to the public. We revealed ourselves after the invention of synthetic blood." Which, in theory, allows them to live in harmony. That's a ridiculous lie, of course, much to Godric's despair.

Yes, indeed they should. The two of them would probably get along very well.

"Synthetic blood?" Stefan could see the face Damon would make at such a notion very clearly in his head. "I can't imagine ever coming out to the public as a vampire. The world isn't ready to learn that fiction is very much reality, as much as I would like to think that they are. They're not. Besides, it's forbidden. Letting yourself be known to that many people is considered to be taboo."

"We have a group of vampires, an Authority that sets the law for our kind. When synthetic blood was invented for medical purposes, it was proposed that we come out of the coffin, so to speak."

"I won't say there was was no opposition to the idea, nor will I pretend that the course has been entirely smooth, but we did not go about the idea foolishly. We have vampires in the political arena who ensured that we were greeted into society with as little backlash as possible."

"Of course, we are still often reviled and even hunted...but I'm not so sure we don't deserve exactly that. Most vampires still prefer to feed on humans, and not always with permission." But then, Godric's kind don't have the option of feeding on animals, and True Blood leaves a lot to be desired.

"Where I'm from, there are The Originals - the first generations of vampires. They don't quite hold the power that they used to, but when their attention is caught and they step in, it's in your best interest to listen." Stefan had never met an Original (at least, not from his present canon point), but he had heard all about them and their ringleader, Klaus, from Lexi.

He nods. "I take it your kind has the ability to...persuade people into lending a vein?"

Godric studies Stefan very seriously, as if looking for an indication of his intentions for asking.

"We do, but I prefer either willing donors, or blood from the hatches." There's an undercurrent in Godric's tone that suggests it would be in Stefan's best interest if he preferred the same.

"I stick to the hatches," Stefan provides. "We can do the same, but what's the point when there's blood banks? Or the hatches. I gave up all that a long time ago. Messing with someone's mind for selfish reasons that only benefit you and harm them doesn't sit right with me anymore."
