TWO; AUDIO [ more people gotta scatter and run from us ]
[ there's a little bit of rustling after angela turns the tablet on, and then a clearing of the throat before she speaks. ]
Hello, Taxon citizens. My name is Angela Dodson, I've been here...a couple of months, at this point. I've got a couple of questions for the population at large.
First off, I was wondering if there was any sort of law enforcement in place in the city, and related to that, did anyone find any new information on about the Extra that was murdered last month? And have there been any other murders of Extras since then?
Any information on either of those topics would be very much appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Angela, I'm Detective Kate Beckett, NYPD. I haven't heard anything else about the murder, but I've been considering the law enforcement issue as well.
[Voice]
Do you know if anyone else has been considering it, or what other types of officers we have in the city?

As far as I know, there is no official law enforcement system set up in this place, though there are many of us here with that background. I'm an FBI agent. Oh, my name is Spencer Reid.
[voice]
How many others?
[voice]
Kate Beckett, an NYPD detective, Michael Weston, a CIA operative and John Casey, an NSA agent. There are probably more that I am unaware of.

Hey, word to the wise: what kind of murder are we talking about here? And is this from the perspective of Interested Citizen, Crazed Vigilante or Actual Cop? Because I think you need to talk to a buddy of mine, depending.

Unless you brought California State Prison with you, you're kind of up crap creek without a paddle, you know what I'm saying?

[ all believable but entirely fake concern there and damon shut the fuck up you killed a few yourself. ]
[ voice ]
Someone's killed at least one of them. A transmission was sent out last month - someone found one of them missing its head.
[ voice ]
And you think it was one of us?

"Elisa Maza, formerly of the NYPD. There've been murders here?"

I hadn't heard that any of the Extras had been killed, though I would hesitate to categorize such a thing as murder.

"First, I have to ask-- you've been here several months and you're just wondering now if there's any LE presence active? Well, permit a relative newcomer to fill you in then, Officer Dodson: no, there is no apparent law in place. Given I've committed experimental theft and property damage with Extras to witness and they don't even go through the motions of calling authority, that's a fairly safe bet."
There's a pause, and then Special Agent Smecker carries on with:
"If you're really serious about establishing some organized enforcement in this city, then, yes. There should be some talking. And some goddamn organizing."
[ voice ]
Truth be told, she's kicking herself for not asking about it sooner, but she's not about to let on to that. She realizes her tone probably gives it away, though, and aside from that it's not the most professional step to have taken, so her voice is considerably calmer as she continues.
"Which is why I asked. I figure the first step is to see who involved with law enforcement is here and if they'd be interested in forming an organization."
[ voice ]
He chews his lower lip a little, debating with himself whether or not to mention his database plans. No, not yet. Cop or not, badge or not, he doesn't know anything about her yet. Trust, like respect, has to be earned.
Aware the pauses is getting a bit long, he clears his throat. "Fair enough. I think it's a good idea, for what it's worth. This many of us, we'd better be turned to some useful purpose rather than just left to our own ends."
And we need to discuss the 'vampire' bullshit, he thinks to himself but he's not going to say that over the tablet.
[Voice]
He was silent for a moment. "I was thinking we should set up some kind of neighborhood watch, anyway," he said over the line, "something any civilian with powers of observation could take part in, really -- I think we're a little too hard-up just to rely on officers of the law and other people with governmental experience. But that's just my opinion, Officer Dodson? Ms. Dodson? Agent? Is there anything else I can do for you?"
[ voice ]
There's a pause, and then a quick intake and exhalation of breath as she silently admonishes herself. Unprofessional. Unprofessional and rude. While she didn't appreciate her capability being called into question, there was no need to take it out on him, especially when there was truth to his statement.
"Detective. And that's a good idea," she replies, in a much more civil tone. "Right now, there's not anything I can think of. Maybe throw out some ideas about how to find out who'd be interested in taking part in a neighborhood watch. I don't think a sign-up sheet would be sufficient."
