[Backdated to day three]

It's become clear the problem is getting worse, not better. At first, Tara thought it was just some kind of strange disease, confined to Extras, but it has rapidly become obvious that the situation is much worse than that. She's called DG, grabbed Dawn, and checked on Willow - she doesn't want to push her girlfriend, but things are serious enough they could use all the help they could get. Sunnydale Library is, she thinks their best bet for specifically occult knowledge, and this definitely falls firmly on the creepy-crawly side.

Tara's not much of a leader, and she wishes Giles were there, but Willow's in no shape. She needs to get them together and see if there's anything they can do. So here she is, with a huge pile of books, and her fellow witches, and breathing a small prayer that there's something they can do.

[Day Five]

Tara knows that she shouldn't have gone back to the shop. There were supplies there, though - things that could help with wards, or healing, and it wasn't so far from the castle.

Too late now.

She's pumping the power that she can into the wards, and she's dragged some display cases in front of the doors and windows for good measure She can't hear much outside, but what she can hear... well, it's not very heartening.

In a lull, making sure her voice is steady, she picks up the tablet. "This is Tara Maclay. I don't know about the other sections, but W-Wilde is unsafe to travel. If - if anyone didn't know." She hesitates a moment, then adds, "I'm okay. But I don't think I'm going to get back to the Castle v-very soon."

[OOC: Combined to avoid spamming the comm, because I let this week slip by! Day three is for Dawn and DG and optionally Willow. Day Five is open for tablet replies; if anyone is running through Wilde and needs refuge or something, I'm open to whatever. PM me and we'll sort it out. Please feel free to backtag either of these forever.]

Osten isn't safe either. I've been stuck in the library for nearly two days. A-Are you ok? Do you have supplies?

[There's a sigh.]

I-I'm by myself..... I've been reading though. Did you know that Leonardo da Vinci invented scissors? Also, it took him 10 years to paint Mona Lisa's lips.

Not... really. There were some semi-stale donuts left over from the meeting Kate had here a week ago... and there's a water fountain at least...

I would think either everyone would eventually be turned or they will die out on their own...

Though aren't they already dead?

Yes, that appears to be the key. The brain is really the only think that is keeping them in motion, so head injuries are the only way to take them out completely...

[ being with tara is hard at the same time it's the best thing dawn can think of happening to her; the only person more welcome would be joyce. still, there's a tiny bit of hesitance hiding beneath the skin that makes dawn squirm if she tries to think about it for long. ]

So, protection spells? I'm thinking those might be good.

[ someday, dawn's going to pony up and talk about it. for now, though: not so much. ]

I mostly meant for like... buildings? Or us, but if there's a 'don't bite me, hungry zombie' spell I've never heard of it.

[Although DG didn't want to leave Cain, she couldn't pass up a chance to do some good. Her friend's condition was getting steadily and frighteningly worse by the minute and, at the moment, anything - a cure for the rapidly spreading sickness or something to keep the zombies at bay - was worth a try.

She hurried through the doors of the library with her helmet still on, having roared across the city at top speed to join the meeting. She caught the end of their conversation before joining in, frowning in concern.
]

It's not just the Extras. [She pulled off the helmet, revealing tousled hair and a face that was pale but determined.] Cain's been bitten and he's getting worse.

[ Willow's been taking the days since her glitch ridiculously hard and this is the first time she's even thought about going outside since then. She's barely left the room she shares with Tara, preferring only to attempt, desperately, to forget about everything that happened last week.

But when Tara said she was going to the library, Willow took a look at the tablets and eventually decided to head out to help. So, just after DG enters, Willow turns up, pushing her way into the not-quite-building just in time to hear DG speak about Cain. ]

I-it's true? The zombie thing is true?

[ And then she realizes there are more people here than just her and DG. There's Tara, of course, and Dawn. Willow doesn't know what Dawn saw of her glitch, but she finds she doesn't want to know. Hanging back by the door, Willow just tries to decide if she should stay or flee before someone throws a well-deserved book at her head. ]

It's true.

[DG was only dimly aware of what had happened to Willow. She'd been a child for the duration of it and hadn't been in a position to help. The fallout had been eclipsed by the current state of the city. Maybe, when this was over, she'd be able to do something to help.

Maybe.

[ Willow stays back, nodding to the others and wondering if she should just... spare all of them. ]

We could try a barrier spell o-or something like that. It'd take a lot of energy, but we might be able to at least make something strong enough for the residents to hide together.

[ The cure she's not so sure on. ]

If we work together, we'll have enough energy.

[DG believed that. Not just because she had to - because the alternative was that it was already too late for Cain - but because that was the way that magic worked in her world.]

[ She's known Tara was out for a little and Willow herself wasn't really up for going, but now... now that this transmission has come through, she wishing she'd gone with her. ]

Tara? A-are you safe? [ Can she try to come get you, is there anything she can do aside from worry? ]

Okay. [ She pauses for a moment, wanting to see, in person, that Tara's okay. ] If... y'know, anything changes a-and you need me... [ "PLEASE CALL ME TARA." She won't rest easily til Tara's back anyway, but she won't want to keep talking, either, in case it gives away Tara's position. Assuming the zombies don't already know... ]

Y-yeah. That's good. That'll be really good. Same for you, okay? I'll leave mine on. [ She doesn't want to cut the connection, so she just picks up Colette from the floor of their room and falls silent. ]
