The bar top was polished to a high shine, and Buffy carefully folded the damp towel she'd been using to wipe it down into a neat square.

Not nervous, nope.

Another spot gets a quick wipedown, and Buffy quickly puts the towel away before she manages to scrub a hole in the finish. She didn't really know when people tended to come in, but if she was by herself for awhile, there was always dusting, and mopping, and re-arranging, and and and...

OK, maybe a little nervous.

She takes another drink, even though it's starting to taste sour. She gives him a rueful smile. "They don't seem to have any trouble spotting the freaks," she says, without missing a beat. Funny how that works out. She guesses it's because vampires get to hide out at night. Or maybe people just see what they want (and don't want) to see.

"Depends on the type, pet. Depends on the type. Some of the worst ones are the ones you see on the news afterward with the neighbors saying 'He was always so quiet'."

Spike shrugs and takes a long drink from his beer. He could really go for a cigarette right about now.

She looks thoughtful for a second at that. She never actually spent much one-on-one time with Spike, and it's hard to believe he isn't as much of a big thickheaded log as she thought. But she appreciates the remark a lot more than she'd like to admit.

"That's something they won't say about me." She pauses, and nods at him with a smile. "Or you."

"Of course not. We're not boring and we're not serial killers."

Spike looks her up and down for a few moments, "Well, at least I'm not. Anymore."

She lifts her eyebrows and gives him a knowing smile. "Never did get the briefing on that whole thing," she says, not hiding her curiosity. She loves a good origin story. She knows a few of the details--from Connor, and from Angel, but she keeps that to herself. "Something about a girl?"

"Which whole thing?"

Spike arches a brow at her, wondering if she's talking about the becoming a vampire part or the resouling part. "Most everything in my life has something to do with a girl."

[electro_girl]

"The soul," she answers, swinging around in her stool to face him. "Angel was cursed, right? Big old slap on the wrist for being a killer. Way I hear it, things went a little differently for you." She studies his face for a moment. "Care to share?"

"Ah. That whole thing."

Spike shrugs a bit, "Went through a series of trials in order to proove that I was worthy of regaining it. Right bitch, it was. Then I went insane from suddenly having a soul and remembering everything I'd done in a century or so without it."

[electro_girl]

She lifts her brow, taking that all in. "Ah," she says. "Sounds like a pain in the ass. Worth it?"

[loves_bitch]

"I like to think so."

Spike gives her a grin that has been know to set toes tingling, "It caused Angel a headache and that alone is house of fun."
