The bar top was polished to a high shine, and Buffy carefully folded the damp towel she'd been using to wipe it down into a neat square.

Not nervous, nope.

Another spot gets a quick wipedown, and Buffy quickly puts the towel away before she manages to scrub a hole in the finish. She didn't really know when people tended to come in, but if she was by herself for awhile, there was always dusting, and mopping, and re-arranging, and and and...

OK, maybe a little nervous.

Spike arches his brows and leans in across the bar a bit, "Does it, now?"

"There were REASONS for why I wasn't in Los Angeles."

She runs through them in her mind, trying to figure out where to start, and gives up, shrugging.

"Anyways, I had my reasons, and they were good ones."

Spike chuckles, "I got out of there as fast as I could. Well, once the world saving was done. Couldn't exactly walk away from all that, of course."

He finishes off the bottle and puts it down on the bar.

Buffy leans over and takes the bottle, putting it in a convenient bin set off to one side.

"You didn't have a problem with letting me do that."

"Now. That's not fair. You didn't do all of the important bits that last time. I quite distinctly remember going out in flames."

His expression softens up, as he smiles briefly while he remembers. No you don't, but thanks for saying it.

"If that hadn't have happened, I wouldn't have fought a dragon with Angel."

"How did you get a dragon??"

He totally knows. He knows that she knows. And the look on his face says he's remember something else entirely. It only lasts for a few moments before it is gone.

"Well, it was the end of the world and it just kind of... showed up to be fought."

Buffy gives him a look like, did I get it right? I think I totally got it right.

Spike smiles, tilting his head to the side, "And, well, it ended up liking Angel more."

That begins to tread on some sensitive ground, so Buffy tries her best to swerve the conversational train onto a different track.

"Can I get you a refill? Might as well do my job."

Spike shakes his head, ruefully.

"Nah, though I wonder if you know if a bloke can smoke inside here?"

Nope, no no-smoking signs. She privately makes a note to ask Jenna.

"I suppose that you probably can... You might be the first, actually."
