[location: Dodgy Jammer] [open] Baby's at the punch bowl with a glass for you to fill

The bar top was polished to a high shine, and Buffy carefully folded the damp towel she'd been using to wipe it down into a neat square.

Not nervous, nope.

Another spot gets a quick wipedown, and Buffy quickly puts the towel away before she manages to scrub a hole in the finish. She didn't really know when people tended to come in, but if she was by herself for awhile, there was always dusting, and mopping, and re-arranging, and and and...

OK, maybe a little nervous.

She didn't hesitate to slip her arms around him. Every world was different, but some things would never change. He'd always be hers and she would always be his. Even the Slayer had her place in their family, though she didn't realise it yet.

"We're like a jigsaw. It's starting to come into place."

"Where we're all supposed to be," she said, watching Buffy when she pulled a way with an almost expectant look on her face. She wasn't supposed to leave.

"You're part of the puzzle as well."

The most important missing piece.

Spike takes a moment to breathin through his nose, to take in the scent of this Dru to see what is and isn't the same. After so many nights together, he'd know her anywhere. And there is enough different that he knows this isn't /his/ Dru. Then again, it was arguable that /his/ Dru wasn't his anymore and hadn't been for some time.

Turning, he looks toward Buffy, "She's still who she is - mostly. Doesn't change much." Which to Spike means she's still someone he was created to protect from the world. And to Buffy, it likely means she's still an unpredictable mass murder.

She'd never been anything else. Unlike a lot of people, she'd never tried to be anything else. And, although she was most certainly a murderer, she was currently held in check by the wires in her head and by the future she was planning for.

"It changes enough. I'm not good. I don't know how to be good. But I won't make a mess here. It would leave a stain."

Same thing she thought about spike, afterall, and rightfully so. He was more of a mass murdering psycopath than Dru was. Mainly because he was indescriminant about it in the beignning. Eventually, he became more refined about it and that was even before he'd gone after his first Slayer.

"I've been a part of worse."

Drusilla's first family had been devout Catholics convinced that their daughter was marked by the devil. Her second family had been Angelus and Darla. She was far better off with Spike and Buffy.

"Isn't it lovely?"

Drusilla clapped her hands in anticipation, just like a child who had been promised a particularly exciting gift on her birthday.

"You always forget what to be thankful for," she said, speaking conspiratorially to the Slayer, "We'll help you to remember."

Spike gives his head a little shake. He isn't on the same page as Dru for this one. Sometimes he knows where she is and where she's going but right now?

He's got no idea.

"For your family."

On this particular occasion, the myriad of differences between their worlds meant that Spike wasn't and couldn't be on the same page as his former paramour. She wasn't even the same Drusilla that he'd known and loved and killed alongside. At the moment, however, she was content enough to pretend that it didn't matter.
