013: [Location: Central, Kaylee's Ranch // Visual] Come Sail Away
In the middle of the Central district, on the edge of Kaylee Frye's Ranch, is a familiar '67 Chevy Impala. And sitting on the hood of that familiar '67 Chevy Impala is a familiar face, relaxing and basking in the sun. The admittedly fake sun, but hell, Dean's not complaining. He's got a cooler full of various alcoholic beverages sitting on the ground next to his car, a basket of fruit sitting next to him on the hood, and the casette he's got playing in his car's set to various classic rock songs.
All in all, a perfect setting for hanging out.
His tablet's switched on to visual without his realizing, so people watching will be able to see part of his face, the beer bottle in his hand, and the open sky above him. Occasionally he sings along with the song in the background, though it's usually low and under his breath. He's not exactly craving company, but hell, he wouldn't mind it.
[any and all are welcome. C'mon. Even if you don't know him!]

She bites the inside of her mouth a little. A wall?
"Why'd ya go an' beat on a wall?" she asks quietly.

Dean's expression doesn't change for a long moment, and then he sighs, turning his head to the side to give Kaylee a weary grin. He'd already done this with Tara, and he's not sure if he can do it again. And if he can, he's not sure if he'll break down like before or be able to get through it without his emotions kicking his ass.
"Apparently Taxon figured I needed to know what's going on back home. Didn't really like what I saw."
no subject
"It showed ya what's happenin' now? Right no- well, guess it ain't 'right now' no more. Don't see the point in that if we can't get home yet."
no subject
"Nah, I don't see the point either. Kinda useless." Dean agrees. "Doesn't look like I'm going home any time soon, unless that was just a preview for the awesome things I have to look forward to."
That was sarcasm! Also, another swig.

Her voice trails off.
"It ain't bad like ... a big war bad yea?" She wouldn't be too thrilled if she saw that somehow. But the war between the Alliance and the Browncoats was long over.
She pauses as a thought hits her. "If it's the future ya could fix it. Since ya know what's gonna happen an' all."
no subject
He's quiet for a moment while Kaylee continues on, and he's finishing off his beer before answering, trooping back to the cooler to grab another cold one. "Big bad war pretty much hits the nail on the head. Apocalypse. Luficer-rising-up-and-taking-over-Earth-bad."
Dean walks back over to Kaylee, and settles next to her, leaning against her slightly, if she'll let him.
"I'm hoping I can stop it. I have to."
no subject
"But that kinda stuff's what folks tell to scare their kids straight. 'bout Lucifer an' all. He's really ... real back on Earth-that-Was. Your Earth-that-Was?"
She'd never protest him settling close by her, especially right now when she's trying to process what he said. It's a comfort to physically feel the presence of another before she gets too deep in her thoughts wondering just what else from the stories and puppet theater could be real.
"'m hopin' ya can too."
no subject
"That's what we thought. Hell, we didn't think angels existed either," Dean explains. "We grew up with this idea that there was just Hell, so finding out that Heaven was real and gearing up to battle Hell was like a freaking slap in the face."
Small, frustrated sigh, and then he sips his beer again. "Not that I'm pissed about there being angels. Otherwise I'd still be--"
Pause. Does he really want to tell her? Dean glances at Kaylee, thinking.
no subject
"Angels too? Do they got wings an' everythin'?" She just can't resist asking really. She did like some stories with pretty angels with wings in them. "How can ya grow up thinkin' there's Hell but no Heaven? I kinda figured they'd go together. Like what all the stuff said, 'specially in Sheppard's book."
She glances back at him. Otherwise he'd still be what now?
"The angels ... did somethin' real good for ya?" she asks slowly. The angels obviously did something.
no subject
"I think so. Cas has them, but I only saw the outline." Dean shrugs. "And you get that way after years and years of no help from the Big Guy Upstairs. Just demons and things that kill people. Y'get cynical after a while."
Why not? Dean's got this far.
"Pulled me outta Hell," Dean says, and this time he takes a big swig from his bottle.
no subject
"Cas?" The angel Cas? That can't be right. Weren't angel names supposed to be all ... high and mighty sounding? "Why weren't they helpin' out with all the demons?"
Cue Kaylee looking at him, wondering if she heard that right. And thinking she just might've. It does fit with what she asked because well, getting help out of Hell just had to be good.
She leans more heavily against the car and starts to look away when she spots part of that mysterious burn mark on his arm peeking out a bit from under his sleeve. She hadn't even tried to rationalize why he'd have a burn that looked like a handprint on him so she hadn't bothered asking (not to mention anytime she had seen it they had been busy with other things and stopping to ask about a burn was just out of the question).
She slowly lifts one hand and gently touches the bit of the burn she sees.
He was pulled out of Hell. It sounds so crazy still but what hasn't in Taxon?
no subject
And then she looks at him, and Dean looks in the other direction, expression blank. He can practically hear the gears turning in her head, connecting one thing to the next, and when she touches the bit of the burn on his shoulder he jumps slightly, not expecting it. It's at that point he does look at her, just watching.
She'd never asked about it before, and Dean hadn't explained, since they'd obviously been busy. But now seems like a good of time as any.
"Cas got a bit literal with the pulling part," Dean says, half trying to make a joke out of it.
no subject
She doesn't notice immediately Dean is watching her. She slides her hand up, taking the sleeve, with it so that when she's done his sleeve's all bunched up and the whole burn is visible. She places her hand over it.
"But ... didn't he'd know that'd do this to ya?"
no subject
When she slides the sleeve up and presses her hand to it, Dean shivers. The skin's sensitive there, and it makes the hair on the back of his neck stand up. His gaze is still on her when he answers.
"Never asked. Cas isn't the biggest talker." His voice is still quiet, low, and his expression's mostly just weary.
no subject
She keeps her hand lightly pressed to the burn for a few moments longer before pulling back.
"'s not a real nice burn but ... 's better'n there bein' no burn an' havin' ya still back in Hell." She looks up at him. "But ... ya weren't supposed to be there none yea? Seein' as how the angel pulled ya out."
no subject
"Yeah. I'd rather have the burn." Dean agrees, shaking down his sleeve. It's not that he's embarrassed it have it, but it looks so weird and out of place. "I dunno if I was supposed to be there. The angels pulled me out 'cause I had a job to do for them."
no subject
She leans fully back against the car again now that she's not looking at the burn. "A job? To-" she pauses, bringing back up what he had said, "stop that Apocalypse? An' Lucifer?" It's a bit troublesome to think the angels would need to pull in reinforcements. Shouldn't they be well, really powerful somehow?
But again, them gathering help meant Dean got pulled out of Hell by one of them.
no subject
"Yeah. To stop it. Or that's what I thought it was supposed to be. Turns out the angels wanted Lucifer to rise. They wanted a 'holy war' or some shit. Something about glory." Dean explains, eyes firmly on his feet.
"Damn smug bastards."
no subject
"Renci de Fozu* ... they what?! How could they wanna start a war on purpose ... what 'bout all the people? That don't make no sense. None."
Kaylee wouldn't exactly call them 'smug bastards'.
"An' that angel what pulled you outta Hell ... 's he lookin' for a war too?"
*Merciful Buddha
no subject
"S'what I said. Like I mentioned, the holy war thing. They figured they were gonna win, and there's nothing more glorious than kicking Hell's ass, apparently," Dean says dully. "The Big Guy Upstairs apparently left the building, so the angels were in charge of the whole thing."
'Smug bastards' is probably the politest term he could use at this point.
"Cas? No. He's not. He--" Dean stops, and frowns, guilt flashing across his expression. "He went against the other angels. Fought off a freakin' archangel 'cause he was on my side."
no subject
"Those angels ... they're all moonbrained!"
Kaylee's emotionally charged statement on the angels fizzles out some. Apparently one specific, currently-in-Taxon, angel has a sound brain in him. Even if it makes Dean look a bit guilty.
"He did?"
no subject
And Dean merely nods on that last bit, thinking over what Castiel's done for him. It ends up spilling out without Dean really even thinking about it, staring at the ground again and speaking quietly. He sounds ashamed, almost.
"Cas tried to warn me about the holy war thing. But the other angels caught him and pulled him back up to Bible Camp, probably kicked his ass around for caring about the people on earth. Basically turned on his brothers to save us." Dean runs a hand through his hair distractedly. "I don't think I could do that, Kaylee. I don't think I could turn on Sam to save all those people. I just--"
Dean stops dead, and falls silent. And it's the awful truth.
no subject
Wait.
"Turn on-" But that's his brother. She could never turn on her own for anything. The thought is horrific. Were those angels demanding he do just that? Turn on his brother?
She moves without thinking to wrap her arms around him.
no subject
Except for Castiel. He owes Castiel his life. Literally.
The thought of turning on Sam, having to erase him or hurt him, even, hurts. There isn't a way in any world Dean could do it. When Kaylee turns to wrap her arms around him, he stiffens at first, startled, but the moment his brain catches up with his instincts, he's holding her tightly, face buried in her hair.
It's comforting, but weird. Hugs aren't exactly the way that Winchesters deal with anything.
no subject
Kaylee knows a hug won't fix much of anything in this situation but right now it just feels nice. Solid. And she continues to keep her arms tight around him and will until stopped.
