12 [Location: Central/Josef's place] Party Post

Entrances had been made. The people of Taxon, some of them at least, had arrived. As the sun was setting and casting the room into shadows, the lights began to come up. Twinkling white lights on the balcony around the pool, mood lighting throughout the room to separate the loft into differing areas for different events. Light music played throughout the main room, though at poolside was a section set aside for dancing as well.

Pausing to overlook the affair, for a moment, Josef felt like he was still back home.

Well, minus the bevy of beautiful women offering up a vein at the snap of his fingers. He was still getting used to that loss, which hurt more keenly than most.

((ooc: Come one, come all. Feel free to set up your own posts or use the starter areas. Josef's place is a massive loft, with three separate rooms including a bedroom with an oversized freezer in it. There is also a rooftop pool area with a wide wall overlooking part of the city.))

"Not everyone has those things, not the way others do." He'd always had financial safety, but he was never safe. The near death moment with his own weapons had proven that.

"And I'm remembering why for most of my life all that I let matter was having fun, but most aren't as disconnected from their emotions like I am." In that he was very self aware.

"No, not everyone does. I don't, even. Not really," she says while looking around. Are they being looked and taking up dance floor space at or can they continue to talk out here? She makes sure they're still moving at least.

"It is easy to put fun first, to try not to take the world seriously. Sometimes, I think, you have to do that in order to stay sane."

In ways he hadn't before, Tony didn't care if they were being watched or not. It wasn't just that he was assuming that most would be watching them, it was that it didn't matter to him in that moment. Unless someone danced into them, he was too busy speaking with Maddy and sharing this.

"Some still don't manage sanity but you make do with what you have." Which is what he kept telling himself. All he could face.

Reaching up, Madelyne runs a thumb across his one of his cheekbones, something that she can't entirely explain why she felt she needed to do right at this moment. "I think you have more than enough sanity, Tony, but I could check to be sure. A lot of mental states is very subjective, you know."

His eyes nearly closed at that touch, lips curling up in a bit more of a smile. "No one thinks men who volunteer to wrestle with nuclear bombs are sane," he pointed out.

"I'm sorry, Tony, have you met my ex-husband?"

The smile stays, looking distinctly amused by the conversation and by the man she's holding.

"You're only proving my point, you know," he pointed out, seeming smug to be able to say that.

"If doing that is insane than I don't know how many sane people I've ever known," Madelyne smiles at him.

"Proabably none. So I'm sane enough," he said with a nod. "I can accept that. I think hero comes with the tag of insanity, but so be it. More so when I'm working for the government." Something he'd sworn not to do again but this was different.

"You're certainly more sane than I can claim to be," she says with a chuckle. Sometimes the things you find funny, you can't entirely explain to others.

"If you're willing to run toward danger instead of away from it, it makes you different and... well... maybe crazy but in a good way."

He wasn’t sure he found that entirely funny but Tony smiled nonetheless. “All depends on our personal definitions, I suppose and everyone’s is different. If I am or not, it doesn’t change my life. I wouldn’t change anything but being here,” he admitted.

He snorted at that. “I run from it a lot. Well, fly.”

"Obviously not, Tony or you wouldn't be an Avenger."

She's not accepting the whole 'running from danger' thing.

“Yeah, you know, there’s that whole they kind of forced me into it thing? I mean, Coulson comes to Pepper. Pepper gives me that look. I was just caught in the middle.”

"Uh-huh," Madelyne says shaking her head, a wry smirk on her face.

"I'm sure that was the only reason."

"That's my story and I'm sticking to it," he said. "Pepper owns the company which means she owns me."

"She sounds like one hell of a woman," the redhead says with a small smile.

He chuckled at that, a soft, fond sound. "She's something alright." He glanced away and then back at Maddy. "You didn't know her in your world?"

"I didn't know you, either. I only knew of you via the news and through others."

"I keep forgetting that. Or maybe I just like knowing I'm an icon everywhere," he said with a laugh. "Pepper though. She was... is... She's amazing. Kept me in line, didn't she? Mostly."

Here, without her there and the pain still fresh, he could admit the things he should have told her.

"I'm sure she did the best anyone could ever do at keeping you in line," she says stepping back from Tony just a little bit.

Oh but that was the truth. Smiling, a definite fondness to that look. "If anyone could come close to doing that, it is definitely Pepper."

"I'm sorry you're here instead of with her."

Madelyne squeezes his shoulder in a way that she hopes is comforting.

He nodded at that, offering a shrug and a smile. “Thank you. Honestly, it’s how life goes. You live on. I get back, she’ll be there and ready to give me hell.” Of that he had no doubt.

"Of course."

Madelyne nods her head toward him and then takes a few steps back from him. "I think I'm going to get something to drink."

He nodded at that, gesturing for her to lead. “I should let you mingle, I’m certain,” he said with a smile. “I would recommend the mixed drinks, because then you can’t tell it’s well alcohol.’
