Returning Favorites

To some, a familiar voice and memorable face - albeit one they haven't even thought about for quite some time - crackles into view on their screens.

"What the flamin' hell is goin' on in?! Where the hell did all this snow come from? And where the hell are all the damn hatch-maker things?"

His face looks strained, as if he's recently awakened from a long, heavy sleep that was somehow not all that restful.

"At the school."

He's still disoriented.

"I went to get a beer, turned around, and suddenly it's the goddamned Arctic..."

"You disappeared... It happened to some other people too. We didn't realize you were gone," she says, sounding a little grouchy about it. "I didn't realize the school was here either. I don't like that they can mess with my head like that. /Mine/."

Madelyne takes a breath in through her nose to calm a bit, "The cold is new but it is getting close to Arctic cold. It was Alaska cold not long ago."

"Been lost near the Savage Land enough to know this kinda cold," he grumbles, heading over to McCoy's old lab to see if there isn't some kind of environmental control possible here. Not that he'd necessarily know how to use it.

"Come to think of it..." he adds, blinking a few times in recollection. "... I think the hamsters mighta dropped me on their lab table for a while. Then again, got so many memories of faceless assholes doin' that to me, it can get a bit jumbled..."

Goddamned memory implant bullshit.

"You somewhere safe?"

Madelyne goes quiet for a moment, suppressing a shiver that has nothing to do with the cold. She has her own 'strapped to a table' memories to deal with as well. "Yeah, I'm good for now. I think everyone is going to have a problem with this cold before it is over, though."

She pauses, "And I've been hearing wolves."

That gets him to stop. If there's one thing he can do, it's protect people from wolves.

"Where are you now?"

[genequeen]

"I'm not worried about me, Logan. I can handle myself with wolves but there are people who might not be able to do so," Madelyne comments toward him.

"The howls are coming from the north, though."

[bub_snikt]

"Don't count yer chickens, Maddie. Who knows what kinda wolves these chumps are gonna throw at us."

Logan then starts to head toward the garage, muttering a bit.

"Gotta be a snowmobile somewhere in this place. Prepared for anything..."

"That is... a good point but I'm still not too concerned about wolves," she says as she's thinking about it. Madelyne presses her lips together visibly on the screen.

"Let me know if you need me to come and pick you up."

[bub_snikt]

"That depends," he answers, as he opens another window to see nothing but snow.

"How tall are the drifts? Am I gonna have to go to the roof to get outta here?"

"We're over a story at least now. It might be taller out there? I'm not sure where the school is right now," Madelyne says as she starts to fiddle with the tablet to pull up the map.

"Flamin' hell... I'll find some damn snow shoes and go up to the science tower."

Last thing he needs is for his dense adamantium body to sink him beneath fifty feet of snow.

"I'm well stocked if I'm stuck, at least. Anybody else need help or food out there?"

[genequeen]

"Take care of yourself. Finding people in this is hard," Madelyne says as though she's speaking from experience.

"We're good at the moment but there might be people who need help. We'll see how long this lasts on the food. For now, we're good. If this lasts more than two weeks, well, I don't know how things will look for anyone."

"Who's 'we'? You holed up with Summers?"

[genequeen]

"Scott's gone."

After a moment, she continues on, as if it weren't a thing, "Buffy too, for that matter. I'm with most of the other people around. This place is well insulated."

Huh.

For as much crap as he gave him, he was just starting to remember Slim as he once was. And it seems a shame he never got the chance to take a crack at Buffy, even though it was weird that her pasty vampire boyfriend was encouraging him to.

"Good. Any new arrivals since I was out of it?"

[genequeen]

"A few. Another vampire, a .... I'm not sure what he is, maybe an old style fae and a magician of some kind," Madelyne says as she's trying to think of the others.

"Oh and some blonde sheriff woman who seems to be okay with a sword."

[bub_snikt]

"A new sheriff? You mean it ain't that Andy Griffith guy anymore?"

[genequeen]

"She was a Sheriff at home, she's not a Sheriff here. I haven't seen the guy here, something I'm more than happy about," Madelyne says before rubbing the bridge of her nose.

"Ah. Heard stories about the sheriff here. Looks like he's from Mayberry and uses some low-level mind control to bring you in line. Hate to say I'm likely set to gut him if I see him."

[genequeen]

"Okay...."

Maddy doesn't know, exactly, what to say about that. "I haven't run into him."

[bub_snikt]

"Good. Though it's somethin' ta watch out for. I'd be curious to see if you've got the mental mojo ta stand up to 'im."

[genequeen]

"Mental mojo..."

Madelyne's a little confused by the idea of a sheriff in the city having a low level mind-control.

"Well, we'll see but if it is a Hamster thing..." She shakes her head.

"Yeah, that's what I figure, too. Can't hurt to try."

Hopefully. S'pose they could always make it hurt.

"It can always hurt to try, Logan. That's why it is scary," Madelyne says, with a dry tone to her voice.

"But I agree with you."
