When the tablet comes on, it comes on to show Toby looking a bit uneasy and tired.

"Hey," he begins, looking like he's thinking about how to word what he's going to say. "Listen... not that there's any doubt that these new people aren't normal, but it might be good to know... they don't have a single thought in their heads. None, it's like... there's just nothing. I mean, this has happened before, but this... this is different. You know, with some people it's a brick wall, but with these guys it's like an empty hole or a blank space."

He sighs, unsettled.

"I don't know about you guys, but I'm beyond creeped out by now."

"Huh. Sure you wanna do that, though? I mean, ask the wrong question, our friendly neighbours might not be so friendly anymore..."

Her tone changed, her expression going a little cold. "They have a habit of getting unfriendly as it is. I've survived this long. I think I can survive getting rousted by some fake cops."

The minute the words were out, she felt badly. Toby was one of two people who really knew what had happened to her and she was snapping at him.

Toby's smile now is small, acquiescent, and he nods his head a fraction. "I know you can."

She quirked an apologetic smile right back at him. "Sorry. It was a reasonable question." She shrugged. "For myself, I don't care. I'd hate it if my pushing brought anything down on anyone else, though."

"Don't worry about it. And yeah... I know what you mean. I just hope my poking around didn't do anything." He looks to the side thoughtfully.

She shrugged. "I doubt it. I'm sure they never even noticed. Have to be someone in there for that." And there wasn't. They were just paper dolls. She did frown for a moment, though. She'd have to ask John if he noticed anything. She was learning to watch herself on certain topics around him because he could hear her. Maybe he could hear them.

"Yeah," he says, but he's not completely convinced. One thing he's found with this place is that he'll probably never be completely sure of himself again.

She caught Toby's eye and smiled faintly. Precious little was right where they were. "We'll figure it out. For all the weird, we've got a fair number of smart people around."
