Sookie awakens with a gasp. It's not your mediocre strength 'just saw a really big spider' gasp either-- it's a full-on ragged intake of breath that rocks her entire body as she bolts upright in bed, clutching the sheets to her chest. For almost a full thirty seconds she looks around her room, at the moonlight filtering in through her window and believes she's at home again, in Bon Temps. It's only when she lifts a tremulous hand to her eye and finds it unbruised that she remembers where she is. Taxon. Of course. But if she's in Taxon, then...
"What the fuck was that?"

"What's wrong." He couldn't remember ever hearing her curse like that, so it had to be something pretty bad for a precision F-strike.

...In any case, Eric's unexpected voice from the tablets frightens the bejesus out of her, and almost makes her jump out of her skin again. "Holy--!" She fumbles for the tablet on her bedside table, breathing a little more rapidly than usual, understandably. "Dammit Eric, you half scared me to death." Pause for a deep breath. "I just-- I don't even-- I had the craziest dream, and it felt so real, like it had to be true."
[visual]
Eric rolls his eyes at that. "Yes, I'll send you a memo before contacting you next so as to avoid that reaction." He wasn't even trying that time. But he reminds himself that snark can come later, after figuring out what happened.
"A dream about what?" Eric's heard about these realistic dreams, but hasn't fully realized what they mean.
[visual]
"You know they say that when you die, your whole life flashes right before your eyes? Well, it was sorta like that-- except it wasn't my whole life, just... these snapshots, but it was so vivid, like I lived every moment of it, felt everything."
Prepare yourself for some verbal tl;dr Eric, as she recounts everything that happened, as much for her own benefit, to get things straight in her head, as for his.
"Bill came back from that tribunal thing and we got into this big fight- I took back his invitation and then... and then I was spendin' time with Sam, to investigate the murders... we found out about Drew Marshall, that son-of-a-bitch, Rene, I can't believe I didn't see it! Poor Amy got murdered, and then Jason got hauled into jail... and then... and then I let Rene tow me home and he tried to kill me, but Sam was there in time to save me... and Bill, oh god Bill got all burnt up, we had to bury him-- but he was fine."
(She takes an obligatory pause to actually breathe for a second.)
"Then a couple weeks later we find out about them legalizing vampire marriages and I'm workin' at the bar and Andy Bellefleur is three sheets to the wind and me and Tara walk him to his car and there's this body in the back and we start screamin' like there's no tomorrow and then boom-- I woke up."
[visual]
"So you're still not up to the present yet." He looks her over appraisingly, noting her nighttime attire. "Are you at all injured?" Most of what she had said wasn't of interest to him. After all, the Bon Temps murders had obviously been the work of a human and thus not on his radar. Sookie, on the other hand, was.
[visual]
ANYWAY.
Eric's first statement makes her blanch a little, which is noticeable on one so tanned. "Not up to the present? So you think it wasn't just a dream? I mean it felt as real as the nose on my face, but how is that even possible?"
There's so much to deal with in her head right now, but his question brings her rocketing back to the moment. She notices him looking, and moves to cover herself up a little more, as the nightdress doesn't offer all that much coverage. "Umm-- no, I'm not. Not at all. That's almost the oddest thing, 'cause I was seriously beat up."
[visual]
"A few I've spoken with have had such dreams. It seems somewhat common." Eric shrugs. "Perhaps it's a way to see what's happening back at the ranch." He looks rather proud of himself for that idiom. But it disappears as he shrugs. "How is any of this even possible?"
He mock-pouts a bit as she covers up. The view was so nice... Sigh. "I don't doubt it." He pauses, trying to figure out how to say this next part. "Still. It's good you're unharmed."
[visual]
"Really?" She hasn't heard anyone mention odd dreams, but then she's never asked. "Well I guess that's awful considerate of our kidnappers, isn't it? Keepin' us all informed and updated like that." That's definitely sarcasm, if it wasn't obvious.
She pointedly doesn't comment on his pouting, merely folding her arms across her chest. Really, Eric. She's a little taken aback by his sentiment of concern though, and it shows. Uncertainly, she replies: "Umm-- thanks?"
[visual]
He nods, because Eric sees all and knows all by grace of being a lurking troll. He smirks a bit at her sarcasm, but his reply is a tad more genuine and snark-free. "It's not entirely unpleasant being here."
He attempts to cover it up with a shrug. "Wouldn't do any good to have my favorite telepath out of commission."
[visual]
"Sure, nobody's tried to kill me lately, that's one upside." She smiles, though it's one of those sardonic fake ones. Her dream-but-not-really hasn't put her in the best of moods, unfortunately.
"I'm surprised you haven't thought up some ridiculous mission for me to assist you with yet, actually."
[visual]
He can definitely sense out the lack of sunshine in her mood. He's just that observant. So Eric rolls his eyes, recognizing the lack behind that smile. "There is more than just that, though it is a good point in and of itself."
"I take offense to that. Each time I've asked your assistance it's been a genuinely serious situation."
[visual]
"What do you like about this place?" She genuinely is interested in his answer to this question, enough that she'll even put away her bitchface momentarily, to replace it with a look of curiosity. Anybody else, she'd just be able to pluck that information right out of their mind, but with Eric? She has to hear it straight from the... vampire's mouth.
"Serious situations like your personal finances." Yes, that tone is dry.
[visual]
"Well. I have my club and my car here, a multitude of interesting beings to enjoy, a sun that doesn't burn me to a crisp... Pam to help run things, and my favorite telepath." He says that with an appreciative shit-eating grin. But the last is said with such casualness, it's as if he considers it an afterthought. "Godric's presence is also something of a plus."
"Embezzlement is a very serious crime, Sookie." Yes, he can tell. Eric, on the other hand, has an appropriately serious face for the subject.
[visual]
She listens to his reasons, not passing comment on being his 'favorite', because it's a slightly worrying notion. At least the conversation is distracting her from thoughts of Bon Temps, however. Eric's casual-ness seems to be almost too casual, so she observes, indirectly: "I like Godric."
Serious face, eh? She'll echo that, though she's less than genuine. "All crime is serious, Eric."
[visual]
There's something tugging at a corner of his mouth, but it passes too quickly to really be considered a smile. "I know. You two were on good enough terms when you met him. Or will. Whatever tense." He shrugs it off because who gives a crap about grammar, really.
"True, but even more so when it directly affects me."
no subject
"Miss Stackhouse? Is everything alright?"
no subject
"Hi Godric-- sorry, I didn't mean to cause a ruckus." She ran a hand through her hair and sighed heavily. "I'm fine, I just had the mother of all nightmares, it had me pretty spooked."
no subject
"No need to apologize. May I ask what it was about?" That hadn't seemed like a typical nightmare.
no subject
"It was..." She began, in answer to his question, before faltering. "It wasn't like a regular nightmare. It was more real than that-- like I lived through every second of it? It was about Bon Temps, my life there."
It's probably telling that she considers her life to be 'nightmarish'.
no subject
"And something bad was happening in Bon Temps?" Godric didn't know about the canon-updating dreams, so his best guess at this point was that Sookie was having awful anxiety dreams about what was happening back home. Not unheard of for someone who'd been abducted.
no subject
"That's a mild way to put it." She answered, hugging her elbows in a sort of self-comforting gesture. "I found out who murdered my grandmother. Who tried to kill me... a man I thought was my friend. Bill almost died tryin' to save me. My brother almost got himself locked up... and now Andy Bellefleur has a body in his car, and lord knows how it got there. What a mess."
