Kirk drops into the seat across from her and holds out a hand to silence her. "Hey, middle name use! Keep it down."

He points at her. "People start making Colosseum jokes in my direction, I'm blaming you." Kirk grins in response to the smile, but frowns at her words. "...why, something up?"

"Something happened to someone down there?" This was news to Kirk. He'd stayed behind, did what he could with sacrificing pieces of the ship that hadn't been working for much to the shelters set up for the people who remained in the city.

Kirk shakes his head. "Nope." What goes unsaid is that he has kind of been making a point to keep away from anyone (well, most) who have connections to Buffy. It's his nature, that knee-jerk reaction to run in the face of emotional intensity on a level he's not entirely sure how to handle. He called it quits to take a break so she could sort out her head, though by now he was doubting things were going to be playing in his favor.

He'd be lying to himself if he didn't say he was disappointed and deeply hurt, but at least things had ended on his own terms and not by hers, as those he was that close to often did. His father died, his mother got a deep space assignment, brother ran away from home... Detachment from attachments was easier when he was the one severing the connection.

And back to the topic at hand.

"Unconscious. Is he...still unconscious?"
