The vampire could've sworn he heard hoof beats in the distance a moment ago, but that wasn't what caught his attention. For all he knew, someone had brought a horse with them when they were pulled into Taxon. What did, was the scent of blood thick on the air. It grabbed hold of his attention and demanded it's focus, pulling him in as he drew nearer to the source of the heavy stench.

He was rewarded with a most horrific sight (or one that would be to someone who wasn't ridiculously desensitized to such things due having done much worse in his day): the headless body of an Extra.

Angel knelt next to it, reaching out to touch his fingertips to the blood that pooled around the body. "Still warm," he stated aloud.

...which meant that this beheading had just happened. Which also meant whoever or whatever did this could still be nearby. But, where was the head?

Looks like. Whatever did this knew what it was doing. Cut's too clean.

Why would anyone even bother? They're Extras. They barely do anything.

They might be brainless and dull as bricks, but they're not useless, Spike. They do the jobs we don't, keep this city running. Half the restaurants and stores here are maintained by them.

That's not what I mean. I'm just thinking, why would anyone bother? I mean, you'd have to kill a lot of them to really make a difference in the workings of the city, I doubt they made anyone angry or stole anyone's girlfriend...

Guess it could be a serial killer or a ritual thingy.

Who knows why things happen here. We don't even know why we're here in the first place. For all we know, this is the hamsters' handiwork and not something any of us did.

I hope not. Pretty sure we don't get to find and kill the hamsters, and I'd really like this be something I can hurt.

Never know. This might lead us to them.

Yeah, maybe. They might have a magic door that lets us go home if we want to waiting for us up there as well.

Sometimes the key to getting something done is a lot simpler than we anticipated. [ pause. ] Though, where there's a way in, there's not always a way out.

We know there's a way out. We just don't know how to do it on purpose.
