The vampire could've sworn he heard hoof beats in the distance a moment ago, but that wasn't what caught his attention. For all he knew, someone had brought a horse with them when they were pulled into Taxon. What did, was the scent of blood thick on the air. It grabbed hold of his attention and demanded it's focus, pulling him in as he drew nearer to the source of the heavy stench.

He was rewarded with a most horrific sight (or one that would be to someone who wasn't ridiculously desensitized to such things due having done much worse in his day): the headless body of an Extra.

Angel knelt next to it, reaching out to touch his fingertips to the blood that pooled around the body. "Still warm," he stated aloud.

...which meant that this beheading had just happened. Which also meant whoever or whatever did this could still be nearby. But, where was the head?

[Brennan shakes her head, frowning thoughtfully at the bloody stump of the Extra's neck that used to be connected to a head. This isn't even close to being the worst thing she's ever seen.]

No, not yet. I'd like to see the uncompromised cut surface first. My specialty is strictly speaking the bone, and while I maintain the vertebrae will likely tell me more than the flesh will about the weapon and the amount of force used, it could still contain some useful trace evidence.

[She pauses abruptly as she realizes exactly what Angel just her asked about the flesh, blinking in confusion at the vampire.]

Wh-- how would you manage that?

[Brennan doesn't like dealing with absolutes, but she's fairly certain Angel's method of removing the flesh from the bones vastly differs from hers. Usually, she'd have no qualms about asking for elaboration, but something about the vampire's tone that she can't quite put her finger on cautions her not to insist upon knowing. For once, she listens to her gut and lets it go.]

Oh. [She nods once and wets her dry lips, concentrating on the matter at hand.]

Ah, no, I'd rather come over there, if that's alright with you. I'd like to see the crime scene for myself. I'll just go grab my kit and be over as soon as I can.

[True to her word, Brennan arrives to the scene within the next half an hour, having hurried up as much as she could. The fact that there is finally something for her to do professionally made her pick up her pace, but truth be told? She's also exceedingly curious about meeting the vampire with such uncanny similarity to her partner in person.

Hefting the strap of her bulky equipment bag higher up on her shoulder, Brennan approaches Angel, momentarily ignoring the dead body nearby. Most people would probably start with "hi", but not her.]

You're even just as tall as my partner. That is quite peculiar.

Same manners too, I see.

[The statement is somewhat wry. Had this been Booth, he would've already received a lecture on how she's perfectly capable of carrying her own stuff, thanks very much. But as it isn't, Brennan stays quiet on the subject for the sake of politeness (she's not completely oblivious all the time) and relinquishes the bag with a quick smile.

...Angel is bad at jokes and Brennan takes everything literally. This could be a horrible combination.]

Well, depending on the time frame, he was likely either in Philadelphia, D.C. or the Middle East.

[She pulls out a pair of latex gloves from the bag Angel is dutifully holding whilst giving the oh-so helpful response. Glancing towards the body on the ground, she frowns.]

No head, then?
