If the sudden shift in scenery had not been enough to irritate the, admittedly easily ruffled, vampire, the strange bracelet on his wrist certainly was. Wrapping his fingers around his wrist, he instinctively tried to remove the device, having little success. With a distinctive low growl, he stalked toward the pedestal and the (phone?) laying atop it. He wanted answers. Snatching the tablet from its resting place, he glared at the screen.

"This is not acceptable!"

The blinking message indicator caught his attention, and for a moment, his anger was diverted, his frown deepening as he read. Finally, he closed the document, leaning his elbow on the pedestal casually as he studied the device. Yes, he had discovered it was recording him. He was still glaring, but his anger was slightly less alarming.

"Couldn't we have managed without the jewelry? It doesn't match my suit." He looked back toward the platform he had arrived on, then back at the tablet in his hand. "But never mind that, I'll think of something."

And then he was grinning again. "But since we're all here, allow me to introduce myself. Nikola Tesla. Genius, inventor," and here there was a pause, mostly for effect, "vampire."

With that, he turned his attention to the strange blinking indicator directing him to another location in the city. "I wonder where you're taking me."

"You and Helen. Always making it sound so clinical. My true nature was reawakened."

Forgive him, James. He sees that sheepishness, and he simply can't hold his tongue. "Are you blushing for her benefit or mine?"

"Definitely don't have that in my world."

Whether or not she believed it was true was another matter entirely. The comment on James' blush makes her cheeks redden. She chooses to ignore it and focus on James.

"So did he know Helen, too, or am I getting everything mixed up?"

"Otherwise we'd sound like you."

And why should he forgive him for that? Because he's not and that just gets an eye roll out of him and he sighs.

"He knew Helen as well. He was a part of our group."

"Is that really such a bad thing?"

Between the eye rolling and the blushing, he considers it a victory.

"A group? Is that what we're calling it now?"

Jenna will just glance between the two of them, not really sure what to think of this but perfectly sure of where her loyalty lies.

"Well, she never really gave me a formal name. And I didn't really know there was a group involved. She didn't tell me a whole lot about herself."

And yet she was still one of the closest friends Jenna's ever had. The memory of their game of Never Have I Ever make her a touch sad and she leans a little more against James, resting the hand not holding her tablet on his arm for comfort.

"Yes."

And now he is just going to ignore him really in favor of Jenna. Instead he just nods and squeezes her leg gently in thanks for that comfort, looking a touch sad himself. Well enough for Nikola to pick up on his feelings about Helen at the moment.

"We weren't really a formal organization, just a group of friends attempting to change the world in our way."

He'll be avoiding the topic of Helen, since it seems she's no longer here. Feelings are always best when sidestepped.

"Some of us were."

Jenna just glances from man to tablet once again, keeping silent, though raising an eyebrow at James. For now, she'll let the two of them talk out... whatever they have between them, while running a thumb over James' arm as she waits.

James just gives her a quick smile and use her touching his arm to calm himself down for the moment. "Perhaps, but that is hardly the point here for the moment. Jen - Ms. Sommers, has been here longer then I have. Do listen to what she has to say."

He is just going to ignore that slight slip up for the moment of his own. He doesn't need Nikola knowing just how close he is to Jenna, not yet.

You're not as good at hiding these things as you seem to think you are, James. He already has suspicions about the two of them, suspicions he's likely to use in the near future, but that will wait.

"When have I ever ignored useful advice?"

Yeah, sorry, James. She has nothing really to add at the moment, not when she's getting such a good view of how he interacts with someone from his own world. She's just going to shift ever so slightly so she can take his hand in hers and thread their fingers together while resting her head against his shoulder.

So much for keeping their feelings secret.

Jenna you are not helping him at all. You suck at this "Help to keep his feelings for you secret from the nosy half-vampire Serbian genius" thing. But he doesn't fight her threading their fingers together and finally gives in enough to rest his head against hers. Oh well.

"Any time Helen has attempted to keep you in line."

You should have known you couldn't keep it from him, anyway, James. You're so obvious. And he has known you for over a century.

"I had good reason. And I did say useful advice."

He doesn't consider telling him 'no' and repeatedly denying his brilliance useful.

Someday they really should try to put some sort of label on whatever the hell is going on between them. For now, though, Jenna's more than happy with what she can get.

And she really wasn't going to interrupt, but that quip about useful advice makes her frown. "Hey!"

Yes they really should and do shut up Nikola. This is completely and utterly not what he wants right now.

And really was that what he thought? Really?

"And by doing that I do hope your stay here is not exactly a pleasant one if you are going to continuously deny that her advice is useful then I see little need to leave this on."

How much troll material do you want Nikola? "And also apologize."

He rolls back some on his heels, almost bouncing. Clearly, he's enjoying this. Sorry, James, he is never going to change.

"Protective."

Jenna snorts and shakes her head. "It's fine. I've had worse."

Protective indeed. It makes her cheeks flush a bit as she attempts to ignore how embarrassed she is at all of this.

"It is you, Nikola."

And yes that was a jib at you Nikola. He wasn't really too caring about her embarrassment at it at the moment, and really was trying to ignore Nikola's enjoyment of it all.

She's blushing again, James. He can't just ignore that, can he?

"Really? I think it's her." Yes, he is eying your girlfriend?, James. "You've chosen well."

"Um... I'm sitting right here," Jenna reminds them both, frowning from one to the other with an expression like the one she'd given John Gilbert when he'd said... other unsavory things last year.

Yes, yes he can. And honestly this is why James can't have nice things Nikola, you ruin it.

And at Jenna's words he doesn't blush, but he does look slightly cowed by it and gives her a small, apologetic smile. "Terribly sorry darling."

And then back to Nikola.

"I suggest you keep your focus above her neck." And yes that is an oddly protective tone in his otherwise easy going manner.

Not always. Sometimes it's John's fault. John is much worse. Don't make him argue that!

"Jealousy, James. It doesn't suit you."

That's a pout. Also a blink at James because did he just call her "darling?"

Give him one moment Nikola as he casually flips his tablet over on the sofa arm and covers Jenna's with his palm to kiss her cheek. That's an apology.

And then it's back to getting that tablet and just line facing at you Nikola.

"And attempting to woo a lady who you have just met hardly becomes a gentleman of your status Nikola. Most notably when your charms are hardly at their best," but his tone of voice implied they hardly ever were.

Yes he just insulted Nikola Tesla. And no he doesn't feel sorry for it.

James, do you really want him speculating? But you'll find a smirking vampire when you pick the tablet up again.

He makes a soft 'tsking' sound, loosely lacing his fingers together in front of him. "Jumping to conclusions without having all of the facts. How unlike you." Then he spreads his hands, doing his best to look innocent. "Can't a man admire a beautiful lady, anymore?"

It's a compliment. Mhm. Really!
