[Holo] 001: Entering the City

If the sudden shift in scenery had not been enough to irritate the, admittedly easily ruffled, vampire, the strange bracelet on his wrist certainly was. Wrapping his fingers around his wrist, he instinctively tried to remove the device, having little success. With a distinctive low growl, he stalked toward the pedestal and the (phone?) laying atop it. He wanted answers. Snatching the tablet from its resting place, he glared at the screen.



"This is not acceptable!"



The blinking message indicator caught his attention, and for a moment, his anger was diverted, his frown deepening as he read. Finally, he closed the document, leaning his elbow on the pedestal casually as he studied the device. Yes, he had discovered it was recording him. He was still glaring, but his anger was slightly less alarming.



"Couldn't we have managed without the jewelry? It doesn't match my suit." He looked back toward the platform he had arrived on, then back at the tablet in his hand. "But never mind that, I'll think of something."



And then he was grinning again. "But since we're all here, allow me to introduce myself. Nikola Tesla. Genius, inventor," and here there was a pause, mostly for effect, "vampire."



With that, he turned his attention to the strange blinking indicator directing him to another location in the city. "I wonder where you're taking me."

"Willing participants? In taste testing or volunteering that blood? Because if you mean the latter, I look forward to your announcement about that."

"Taste testing. Though, if an acceptable alternative can't be found, we may have to resort to other options."

He clearly finds this idea amusing.

"I'm willing to volunteer for the tasting, though I will be honest about if it is the most horrid thing since vegan blood," he said brightly. "You really shouldn't say it like that. You sound like a movie villain."

"I'd expect nothing less," he smirks, "And is that really such a bad thing?"

Josef was beginning to feel more comfortable talking about his life with those here than he ever had in L.A. and it amused him. "Not a bad thing. Not at all. Especially if you can make this work."

"Genius, remember?" His arrogance knows no bounds.

Josef really just can't help himself sometimes. "Then why are you here?"

"I intend to find out."

"I didn't mean that literally," he pointed out. "More along the lines of how did you not avoid it."

"I didn't realize I needed to."

Of course, he isn't necessarily complaining. Not yet. There's a whole new world of technology at his fingertips, waiting to be dissected and studied. At least, as far as he's concerned.

"If we're to remain here, we might as well make the most of it."

"A much healthier attitude than some that have arrived since I did," he said, thinking about the suicide he'd been encouraging.

"There are worse places we could be."

"It does seem to be. Though I may be judging by one couple that seem a bit odd."

"Oh?" Yes, he's curious now.

Josef shrugged. "First time I saw them they hadn't secured their tablet well, which I might warn against by the way. Seems to happen a lot it broadcasts whether you like it or not. That said, they were talking about trying to get others to trust them and committing suicide."

He sighed. "I was really trying to get him to try it. Seems you don't stay dead here and I really want to test that."

He considered that a moment. It didn't seem like much of a plan to him. "Suicide is hardly beneficial to anyone, least of all the person committing it."

"There are other ways of testing that theory."

"I'm curious to know if it's true but really I was challenging him to face the things he was saying. Not a bad guy from the other talks we've had about the nature of this place."

"Making rash decisions doesn't speak well of his character."

"I don't think anything that brought us here cares about our characters in general."

"Probably not. But they wanted us for something."

"What's that's for is anyone's guess," Josef said, considering the little information he'd amassed. "A handful of vampires, a dragon, several humans, magic workers and more. None of it seems to have an actual tie in though they do seem to take several from the same place though not the same time."
