001 - Holo: Arrival - Another Ordinary Day
“-why don’t they teach what really happened, because that was far more interesting.” As soon as the little girl registered the change in her environment... she quickly clutched at her ears and shut her eyes. It might not be for most people, but to this little girl the room was very very loud. Louder than anything at home ever was, it was all vibrating and it was very distracting. It was worse than the Veritas ship, plus there she had the lovely distraction of terror.
It took more than a few moments for her to finally speak again, “Sarah Jane? Mr. Smith...” After a brief flash of worry over her features she seemed to relax. Growing more used to the vibrations in her mind from all the energy flowing around the city. It was more abrasive than Earth’s electricity, but it wasn’t too bad after a few moments. She did seem to be handling the abduction remarkably well for someone so small.
As she crouches down at the edge of the pedestal she hops down to the ground ignoring all the steps like you would expect from a child without a parent to suggest that might be dangerous. Plus, the abduction overrides any other dangers at hand. “Is anyone there? I would like to go home. Sarah Jane was explaining several events in Earth’s history that were wrong. I was having fun with those stories, and there are much better ways to get her attention.”
After all, to Sky aliens showing up was an interesting distraction after having tea. If she freaked out every time she saw someone that wasn’t human it would be very hard to look in the mirror. She was still looking around the room when her expression grew troubled, and her eyes instantly fell to the item on her wrist. She didn’t reach for it, or try to remove it, she could feel how it was connected to her. “Sarah Jane will be very upset if this isn’t removable, I’m not allowed to have piercings yet. I’m not sure why, because some are very pretty, but I’m not.”
Sky quickly realized she was slipping away from the point and moved over to the other thing in the room that she could feel that wasn’t the room itself. Picking up the tablet and having no issue with it. She is, after all, exceptionally clever. Studying it for a little longer than five minutes, with no sign of realizing she’s still broadcasting... until she looks straight forward, so maybe she did notice. “Whoever is listening to this broadcast, what’s a paranoia? I don’t think I have one with me.”

"So it would be bad to just collapse the bank accounts of corporations preventing the advancement of society?" Sky didn't think about how such things could have fallout, but she supposed it would be much like damage if you remove a critical piece to a machine and expect it to function. Her voice had worry to it, but it was still mostly curious. "I suppose I will need to be a bit more clever to fix this. Maybe when I'm older."
Sky looks a bit nervous at the mention of aliens. Deciding how to best answer this, it wasn't like aliens could be a secret here. Given the being abducted by aliens as a part of the situation. Still, could she just explain about Mr. Smith? Well, Josef was really nice. "Mr. Smith is our computer, we use him to help prevent widespread knowledge of alien activities. Humans... do not handle it very well."
"The probability is in less than one percent I could accidentally cause such an event," Sky, unlike anyone else, could maintain a more constant attention to the impact anything done has on the environment. Making the chances she would miss exciting the energy this city ran on very low. "Also the power generators, power converters, and most of the technology it would be dangerous for us to access isn't accessible. Like the device to transport us, I couldn't even find it in the arrival room."
Sky was beginning to realize that she may have been just a bit too excitable in her talking, and didn't properly hide all the aspects of herself that weren't human. Her eyes dart around the screen in front of her, and after a flicker, it's locked from the rest of the network.
Sky is nothing if not very good at reading quickly. She looks just a bit guilty before she starts speaking again, like she was caught with her hand in the cookie jar, "My mother is human, but... I'm adopted. I'm getting much better at passing for it, usually. People don't realize how many things they just know."

"You're young though and you've got plenty of time. It's kids like you that chance the world." One way or another.
"I see." And he did though now he was really curious about so much. "Just who is we," he asked, trying to sound nonchalant. "I can't imagine you working for the government."
He shrugged. "Is that one percent worth it if you killed me? Or the dragon here? Or ended the lives of the unicorns at the zoo," he asked, playing on the things he thought could stop someone from that risk. Another time he wouldn't mind but Kitten and her life was another thing.
"They're very protective of how we get here, and how those that have gotten out did it."
He fell silent, thinking about that, watching her look and that careful wording. "Adopted. Not like your mother either," he said more than asking. "It was some of the wording. I don't sense electricity and I operated on a higher level than most humans."

"UNIT is aware of us, but since most of what we do is save the planet they leave us alone," Sky didn't know what other aspects of the government were aware of Sarah Jane Smith's hobby. "Sarah Jane, my mother, Clyde, Rani, and Luke, my brother. We help aliens that are lost, and stop aliens that are bad."
"I..." Sky had an answer of how she could be absolutely sure of taking every precaution and how it might help them all get home. But she got distracted by something, "Unicorns are real!?" Sky lit up like a Christmas Tree at the mention of unicorns. The Zoo here must be amazing to have unicorns in it. Clyde and Rani told her unicorns weren't real after Clyde made a joke about them, and drew her one. Yes, the little girl with no idea what a pony is did know about unicorns.
"English has a lot of words... but I suppose I shouldn't have gotten so wrapped up in this place," Sky did forget, sometimes, that without the others what she says can't be covered up. Like the explanation that her age and senses were a problem. She hesitated, then continued, he revealed he wasn't human (exactly) so she could be a bit more forthcoming, "To be completely honest, I'm not from Earth at all. I don't have a real mother, not before Sarah Jane adopted me. The closest thing is Mrs. Myers, she claimed to be my mother 'cause grew me in a lab. But she wasn't exactly nice."
[Video] [Filtered]
"Were you investigating these aliens before you got brought here," he asked, thinking it was a damn accurate leap of intuition to consider. "Don't exactly seem like the good type to me." He paused at that. "Are there good aliens?" Logic said there would be but he wasn't betting on it.
Boy, he hadn't expected that one after the pony thing. He chuckled, nodding. "Yep. They got freed recently. We could have used you then." Because he was betting she could have caught one unlike some others. "They're at the zoo though. Everything from common critters to things that make me want to rant." Because he had sworn if they came near Kitten he'd fight tooth and nail to keep her free, and he'd meant it.
"English is a messed up language. They stole from everyone and then didn't set rules that made enough sense." Speaking as many as he did, English being a native language, he still had toubles with it. "Being around them, you'll get it down more. Same as anyone for whom it is a second language."
So now the aliens were kidnapping their own. Loverly.
"Then don't claim this Myers woman. Sounds like Sarah Jane is your mother," he said with a nod. "You still like London though?"
[Video] [Filtered]
Sky simply looked confused at the commentary around the unicorns, drowning out her elation at the thought of such creatures, "I think I should go see them. If they are real maybe I can suggest changes next time Clyde draws one for me. Plus there are several common creatures I've never seen. Like most species of toad." She had been curious ever since she found out 'toad in the hole' wasn't made with real toads. Retrospect made a zoo seem like a very good place to go. She probably should have visited one months ago.
"English is my first language, I knew it since I turned 12. Just... I wasn't given a full vocabulary," Sky knew every standard rule for English, and a few of the common exceptions. It was just in her head, probably due to hearing it when she was a baby and her priming locked it in as her primary language. "It's like I was given enough to communicate, but not everything I needed."
"I love London, but it's the only place I've ever lived. I've seen some of the country but I don't like it as much." It was just too... different, and she liked what she had. She supposed given time, she'd like it too. But for now she would rather live in the city. "I've only left England once, but that was in an alien spaceship so I didn't see where I was."
"When Sarah Jane was last sent on a trip for business, I stayed home. She said I should be at least one before I should worry about how to handle other cultures." Sky went along with this rule even if she didn't like it, she didn't like being treated like a baby even if there might be a point to it this time.
Re: [Video] [Filtered]
"Not a fan of toads, I admit, but knock yourself out, Kid. I'm betting they've got horses and ponies." At least he assumed they did. He wasn't much of a zoo person, and had become less of one since meeting a dragon.
"Wait, you didn't have a language at all before you were twelve," he asked, brow arching. "How did you communicate before then? As for learning it, ask. Talk to people. You'll pick up the idioms and all soon enough, I'm betting. You're quick." For a kid or an adult. He wished they all were like that.
"Only place you should live," he said with a smile. "No, that's not true. I love California too, and even if we get back, I won't be moving back to England any time soon." He still wasn't welcome back, if he was honest, which he wasn't going to be. "More traveled than I am. I'm impressed."
"How old are you," he asked suddenly. "Not what age you're meant to be but what age are you?"
[Video] [Filtered]
"California?" That question did not sound like the other ones when the word meant nothing to her, "I thought that place was only for actors and surfers?" So it didn't mean a lot to her, she knew a basic history for it, but Clyde told her that now it was only for actors and surfers. Which, of course, she believed. "And I didn't intend to live anywhere else yet. But here I am."
"I'm eight months and four days old, but I might be a few days older than that," She didn't remember before Sarah Jane found her, but it was entirely possible she wasn't stolen immediately after creation. She didn't sound concerned about this aspect of herself, worried, embarrassed, or anything emotional attached. It was a fact, about her, and nothing more than that, "It's easier to just count from the day I turned twelve, which was eight months and four days ago."
[Video] [Filtered]
Despite himself, Josef laughed. "There are parts of California that aren't exactly like that but others that are rich with culture and heritage. I moved there from Chicago about sixty years ago. All I seem to remember from back then was orange groves and would be starlets in huge sunglasses and kitten heels." He slumped softly as if sighing. "I admit, I miss what it was like back then. There was a glamour to it that you don't find often. Suppose though if I hadn't been dragged here, I would be moving on soon." If he had survived the explosion, he wasn't sure he could explain how to the world.
"I think that's a perfect way of marking your age," he said with a nod. "It only makes sense. So..." He had to ask, he couldn't help himself. "Do you know anything about the aliens here?"
[Video] [Filtered]
There were several things Sky could have picked to focus on in those statements. Kitten heels sounded either fuzzy or terribly uncomfortable for the kitten. Orange groves probably were about the fruit, but Sky thought it would be more interesting if it was a statement of color. Instead, she focused on the one thing she couldn't wrap her head around at all, "Sixty years, that's a really long time. You must be very old." Decades were impossible things to Sky, especially when connected to people. On abstract things like landmarks and countries ages didn't seem as odd, but on people they have done so much more than she could ever dream of doing yet. Everyone insisted when she was older it would be less impressive, but it hadn't changed yet.
"We still tell people I'm twelve because apparently it's really weird to grow up without any birthdays. And Clyde insists we should celebrate one when I wasn't really born," Luke had a birthday too, and he also wasn't born. She was confused as to why they called it that when it wasn't accurate, but she accepted it because there would be cake. "These aliens? Not specifically... but what I sense says they are incredibly advanced. Just... even without seeing any of their technology, to get an energy like this would need a lot of work."
Sky literally lacked the proper vocabulary to properly explain this. But as much as how young Sky is impacted her answer, it was also that Earth couldn't properly capture the concepts at play here.
[Video] [Filtered]
He nodded. "If anyone asks, you're twelve and had twelve great birthday parties to prove it," he said with a chuckle. "Why not celebrate the one you were born on? Or whatever you want to call it." Again he nodded though he would have loved if she'd known something more. No one seemed to know a lot and that bothered him more than knowledge would have. "Guess we'll have to learn as we go."
[Video] [Filtered]
That was usually Sky's problem, people could explain what they meant, but not where such a term came from. Like 'turn of phrase' means an idiom, but nobody has satisfactorily explained how that came to be.
"Well, it's either 'the day I was grown in a lab' or 'the day I primed to destroy the entire Metalkind race.' We don't know the first date, and since it wasn't on Earth it would need to be calculated to fit GMT. And the other isn't the most appealing name to put on invitations," Most people do not throw parties for preparations of genocide. This made absolute sense to Sky, as nothing about her purpose was very appealing. She looked just a bit sadder thinking about it, even if she didn't seem shy on the topic right now. That quickly passes and she returns to herself, her next thoughts being much lighter in mood, "...I suppose we could focus on the fact I was defused that day! Or it was the day I arrived with Sarah Jane. Those are much better memories."
However complicated Sky's life seemed before, it appears she's still holding back a few details.
[Video] [Filtered]
He seemed to blink at that, straightening. "Do you think your mother will come looking for you," he asked. Someone with experience with aliens could prove beneficial in trying to get them out of wherever they were and back to the worlds they had all come from.
"Wait, back up. Let's go back to the destroy an entire race thing," he said, arching a brow. I know we're talking birthdays but I'm kind of curious about you destroying a race, and just how and who this race is." How could he let that go? It was something new for him, that was for sure. "Go with the better memories. Always go with them if you have the chance."

"Mrs. Myers made me to end a war. I don't really know the specifics, but I was a bomb set to detonate when exposed to the specific energy signatures the Metalkind use in their technology," There were traces of sadness to her words, knowing that her purpose in life was one that was terrible, "My being given to Sarah Jane and ending up on Earth were obstacles to Mrs. Myer's purpose for me. But most of my abilities were destroyed when an intergalactic gateway collapsed on me. I don't have to worry about exploding." Of course that sadness vanished when she got to the part of her being defused, which if you were a bomb would make you very happy to be disarmed.
"The gateway collapsing on me is a happy memory. It felt really weird but it didn't really hurt, it was more like tingling over my whole body."
[Video] [Filtered]
"Wait, what?" That couldn't be true. Now he was hoping for an outright lie. Even if he wasn't exactly fond of children, he couldn't imagine turning one into a bomb. "How could someone do that to you," he asked, shaking his head. If he could accept what he was, he could take the story at face value. "You are sure you're safe now, right?"
It wasn't the kindest question but he was curious to know. "And there's no way to reverse it?"
[Video] [Filtered]
"She didn't do it too me, it's what I am," Sky tilted her head, everyone said that making a bomb like her was wrong. More wrong than a bomb is normally, but she didn't understand why it was more wrong than any other weapon of genocide. "Ms. Myers acted like I couldn't be repaired, and she created me. My genetic programming was destroyed, leaving me with only the sensitivity to energy waves. So I'm as safe as anyone else kidnapped by aliens certainly light years from home and possibly in a different reality."
"Reverse it? Not that I know of. But Sarah Jane isn't very fond of weapons. So even while my other abilities might be useful, I don't really want to explode," While her tone doesn't change much, her squirming makes it clear she's not comfortable with the topic. She brightens with one detail added to her lost abilities, "It was really fun setting off all those car alarms."
[Video] [Filtered]
"That's semantics," he noted, horrified by the idea. For years he had put to death any that endangered children, used them or fed from them. Worse was turning them. To make one as a bomb was horrific, even to him. "Likely a different reality from the people I've met and even the times they've come from." Such as he and Mick and things not quite lining up.
"I don't think anyone would be very happy with that happening to you." He chuckled though at the thought. "There's way to make sensors to make it happen. I'm sure you could figure it out with a bright mind like yours."
[Video] [Filtered]
"Not really. If Ms. Myers didn't need a bomb, I wouldn't exist. It isn't something I like to think about, but it's part of who I am," Sky never understood this distinction between who she was and what she was everyone made. She was more than a weapon, yes... but that was where she started, if Ms. Myers only did bad things, then... she was bad, and that can't be right.
"Well, unless anyone here is a boron based lifeform, I'm harmless." The only good news is that from what she knew of the universe she would have a very small impact if she were to detonate. Boron based life is especially rare. "I could, but it isn't very nice to the car owners. No matter how nice a sound car alarms make." Apparently they were designed to alert and annoy humans, she didn't see how the second part could be true.
[Video] [Filtered]
"Then nothing to worry about here then," he said, knowing he was lying out of his teeth. The aliens, should they find it useful, could do who knew what to that poor child.
He frowned, realizing he hadn't a clue. "Since I don't know what a boron based lifeform is, I don't think there are but, if there are, I'm sure that we can work on avoiding things for you." Likely. Depending on what they were.
[Video] [Filtered]
She tilted her head, taking him at his word. One of those things Sky should know better than to do, yet her trusting side gets the better of her. If he said there was nothing to worry about, then it was probably true to the best of his knowledge.
"We're carbon based, boron based life has the same basic organic structures... just made out of metals." She acted like that was a perfectly logical answer to the question, and as obvious as the time of day.
[Video] [Filtered]
He found it almost frightening in that he couldn't imagine hiding from the truth. The more a person hid, the less they could work to protect themselves.
"Oh. I see. I don't know why but was thinking it was less to do with their make up and more the planet they were from or such." He hadn't been sure about aliens until he came to this place. Now that he was accepting their alien overlords - evil or not was still to be determined - other forms of aliens were a lot easier to accept. "A lot of issues with those on your Earth?"
[Video] [Filtered]
"I only met the one, and while he was there to kill me I was made to wipe his species out. So I can't really blame him." A lot of talking about that day happened afterward, with a lot of awkward answers about her questions on the subject of right and wrong. After everyone had answered one way or another, Sky had decided the Metalkind was right to try and destroy her, but it meant she was also right to blast him. He also stopped coming after her once she was damaged, which was another point in his favor.
[Video] [Filtered]
"Well, I guess you can't blame him though what happened to them if you didn't wipe them out? Are they still a threat to your world," he asked, definitely curious about her life.
[Video] [Filtered]
"The Metalkind are the enemy of the Fleshkind, not of Earth. He only came to Earth because I was there, so they haven't been a problem for my world," Sky never considered the home of the Fleshkind her world, yet... "The Fleshkind I would assume are still at war with the Metalkind. But since I have nothing to do with either I wouldn't know the specifics."
Video] [Filtered]
It was a better explanation than he gave most.
"How is the fleshkind different from me, or others here," he said, knowing he was different from most."
[Video] [Filtered]
"When Mr. Smith did a more detailed scan he said I don't have 'Wisdom teeth' or an 'appendix.' He wasn't sure if that was specifically because I'm Fleshkind or because I was created in a lab," Sky considered what else she knew on the subject of her people. She didn't have a lot, they weren't local and she didn't feel any connection to them after her existence. "I know that we have to keep faking my blood tests, because it isn't the same as human under the microscope, even if it is the exact same shade of red. Oh, Fleshkind are more genetically and technologically advanced than humans, its why Ms. Myers could control people with an peculiar energy she had access to."
