06 [Location: Central | Open] I am not yours....

Selina Kyle has a new hat.

She's sitting outside of a cafe sipping at a cup of coffee. Wrapped up inside a shawl, she's warding off the brisk chill of the day. It is trying to creep up into her bones, even with the sun shining down on her. Keeping her hands wrapped around the cup, she watches all of the people, or 'people', if you will, walking by.

This place is strange and she doesn't entirely know what she thinks of it.

Tony couldn't help but laugh. "What? Think the aliens fear us throwing ourselves off roofs?"

"I think the aliens try to make things as close to normal as they imagine. So, there would be a locked door to the roof. If not, well, then, we'll just be able to take what we want and hopefully the Sheriff doesn't care about copper tubing."

She's a little tense when she mentions the Sheriff but it is mostly background as the elevator continues up. The smile doesn't slip for a moment.

"I have every faith you can get us in there," he said, pausing though when she mentioned the Sheriff. "If he comes, do me a favor. Run," he said, not for a moment hesitating to offer that.

There is a soft huff of air from her at that, "If he shows up it likely won't matter what I do."

It isn't that she wouldn't run, it is more than she recognizes when something is futile. The elevator doors open and she starts to head toward the stairwell. There has to be one heading up, right? This is a pretty standard building...

"Yeah well, I'm all for protecting you." He remembered her that night, what it had done to her.

He paused, pulling her to look at him. "Are you sure you want to take that chance?"

She has to swallow back a familiar retort because Tony doesn't know her yet. He doesn't deserve the claws that she might have given.... someone else. "I'm a big girl, Tony. I can handle the consequences of my decisions."

She leans in to give him a brief kiss on the cheek before turning to start heading back toward the door.

He paused, watching her because he nearly commented on her state the last time the sheriff had gotten her. Then, softly, he made the reminder. “Taking care of yourself and ending up a pale wraith on my couch is not the same thing, Selina. But no skin off my nose. Do what you want.”

He would still try and be there for her.

The reminder of her state that evening is not exactly something she welcomes. Being vulnerable like that isn't something she /does/ as a general rule. Having someone actually care about her, even a little bit, having seen that is like having and itch under the skin.

Still.

"Thanks. I think... we'll be okay."

She fiddles with the lock on the door for... maybe a few seconds, before the door swings open revealing stairs that lead up toward the roof.

He glancing around though, genuinely concerned for her well being. He might suck at showing it, but he is one to care. For her and others. At least when he lets himself.

"Aren't you wonderful," he said, meaning it as he mock sketched a bow. "After you."

"Thank you," she says as she takes the stairs quickly. The clothing is not what she's used to moving in for this sort of work but she's flexible. The door at the top is easy to unlock but she has to shove it open, having been stuck.

He followed her, watching the view. He chuckled. "So in all your experience in this, ever gone around dismantling air conditioning units for copper?"

"For copper? No," she says with a small smile as she makes her way to the unit in question.

"Why do I think there's more to this than just a no," he asked, sliding up behind her, almost crowding.

"There are more to most of my stories than just yes or no," Selina says generally amused by him. She's quickly pulling the air conditioning unit apart. "Now I think I'll need some guidance on where is best to look for what you need here."

"I never know though if you want to keep them secret, or hint at them for others to ask, poking until you reveal the story," he admitted, having put some thought into why she did things.

"You take off the cover and the side panel. There's a core within where the tubing starts to coil. Those are finer wires, and then thicker ones at the base."

"You can always ask, Tony. I'll let you know which ones I'll answer and which ones I won't," she says as she starts to pull the panels off and strip the wires in question.

"I'll let you know if I don't want to answer."

He considered that as he opened the other tower and began deftly dismantling it. "What's the least valuable item you ever stole and why? Emotional counts as valuable."

"Huh. I'm not sure. I have a habit of picking things up and pocketing them, so probably something like a paperclip. Though, if we're talking intentionally stole?" Selina pauses before continuing, as she thinking about it.

"On purpose, I'm sure it was a condom."

He was coiling the copper the best he could when she made that admission. He paused, laughing. "Well then, there's something we've shared," he admitted, remembering a time in college when he wasn't ready to wait for a long line.

There is a wry expression on her face, "I didn't have a lot of choice when I was younger but I was going to be damned if that one was going to be out of my hands." The words aren't light but her tone certainly is. The copper that she's stripped, she coils it quickly and carefully before handing it over to him.

He nodded, settling in on the end of the dismantled unit, watching her. "They used to disappear when I was out. From my wallet. From my car. Some women... they'd get their heart set on something. So I would sneak into hotel shops and steal them." He shook his head, remembering those days. "That was back in college though."

He watched her a long minute. "Do you keep track of most expensive?"

"Their hearts set on it, huh?" Selina gives him a bit of a look at that, "And I'm sure you were just performing a public service?"

The long look doesn't seem to bother her though she always wonders about the gears turning inside the minds of others'. "When you've stolen a number of things that are 'priceless' that becomes challenging. But my personal favorite..." She pauses and smiles, it is a small smile but intense, as if this is a cherished memory.

"The car. It would have to be the car."

“Not on sex, let’s be honest. They had their hearts set on trapping me into paying for life,” he pointed out, a bit of why he seemed to be bitter about such things.

Oh now she had his interested. “What car is that?”

"There is a man, like you, at home. You built a suit. He has a car. That car...." Selina makes a sound in the back of her throat and, well, it seems that Selina might have a /thing/ for fast cars.

"Even getting into the car was an accomplishment most would brag about. Turning it on was possible the work of a lifetime for a thief but driving it...?" She shivers briefly with a smile on her face.

He watched her for a long time. His expression didn't quite shut off but there was a bit of darkness as he nodded.

"You know, I don't know what bothers me most. You keep comparing me to him... or that now I have to worry about you stealing the suit."
