~Halloween Event~ Carnival! Fun Fair Fun Times!
On the evening of the twenty-second day of the tenth month, the chilly weather takes on a slightly different shroud: veiling itself in brighter starlight and clearer air and a crisp, pitch black cloak of darkness...lit up by streetlamps and bright, autumnal window displays, and carved vegetables as far as the eye can see.
It's not just Jack what makes a lantern this time of year, but courgettes and bird cages (birds not included) and jars and actual wrought iron lanterns. Candle light permeating the very air of the city, casting a warm glow on anyone who happens to draw close enough.
Here and there Extra parents tug their Extra children along in a hurried quest to find the perfect outfit or costume for this or that party, spooky or sweet or just plain excellent.
What's more is the long winding carnival snaking its way along the many winding streets of Taxon, hundreds of Extras all dressed up in outfits that some may find more disturbing than others: zombies, ghouls, old crones and Killer Klowns and white-masked beings, moaning and wheezing and giggling their way towards Central Square - but who knows where they're headed next.
Fun fair's in town, kids.

With a wave, he beckons her to follow him, as he's caught scent of a British pub half a block down the street, off the beaten path of the bustle.
"First one's on me," he says as if that means anything here, as they walk in. It's not as crowded as one might think, thankfully, as many extras are drawn outside to the big festiveness.

Selina looks toward Logan at the comment about mailbox eating people, looking a bit startled. She allows him to buy the first round - they do have an allowance, after all.
"I should have known it was a villainess outfit."
no subject
"Little more complicated than that. Plus, I've seen heroes with worse."
After ordering a round, they're delivered promptly.
"Take it you're from a spandex-heavy world, too, then."

"Course, same's been said about me and the tiger stripes I sport sometimes. Might be a bit too bright, but I figure it helps to offset some of what I tend to have to do. It isn't very nice."

"S'why I keep tryin' to do other stuff. Stuff I ain't always suited for... like superheroin' or runnin' a damn school."
A long drink.
"Always tends to come back to cuttin' up ninjas, no matter how far I get away from it."
no subject
Yeah, she's teasing him but she has had at least one dinner ruined by random ninja attack. Which is better than random clown attack.
Or rocket wearing penguin attack.
"It is always better to try new things. You could find something you didn't know you were suited for."
no subject
"Well, they haven't kicked me outta the Avengers yet, so I s'pose I'm doin' somethin' right there. And the fact that I kept the school open longer than a week is more than I would've expected even a year ago. Not that I ain't got a lotta help with that."
He waves the 'tender over to refill the beer.
"Not that there ain't some days when I'd rather go lose myself in the backwoods again."
no subject
"I'm not a cabin in the woods sort of person but I do understand the desire to get lost."
no subject
"But ya got it. Avengers... 'Earth's mightiest heroes' and all that. I usually run with a crew called the X-Men. Me, Summers, Maddie and a hell of a lot of other people. We did the super-hero thing, but bein' a mutant came first. All kinds o' strife between us and the sapiens. Avengers called, figured I might make a good showin' for my people, high-profile do-goodin' and that."
He lifts his beer again to drown out this next part after he says it.
"When I left, both teams were beating the shit out of each other for stupid-ass reasons."
no subject
Selina takes another drink, "Right, so one of those fights where people go in and start swinging without asking or something bigger?" Right now, she's avoiding asking about the whole 'my people' thing since that just seems weird.
no subject
Fft. That'll get swallowed down with beer.
"You know some people here, don't ya? That Blood guy, smells a bit like demon ass?"
no subject
Selina arches a brow and chuckles, "I know him a bit but we've only met a few times not here."
no subject
Another couple of puffs on his stogie, as his eyes drift away from her for a moment. "Of course, the guy everybody expects to be the most pretentious - a guy they call 'Captain America,' for chrissakes - is anything but. Guy walks the walk, and he never takes his eye off the little guy."
Can't quite say the same for Summers.
no subject
Selina shakes her head with a small smile, as if she's remembering something pleasant. "Still, everyone gets caught up in their own things and can see anyone else and... It just all goes to hell. Usually, I stay out of the way."
no subject
"That used to be me, too. Might be me again, if I get fed up with tryin' ta keep everybody honest."
Not that Logan's all that honest, balancing a school with a wetworks squad.
"Maybe bein' stuck here'll let me take a damn break from all that and get my head straight again."
Then, a look to those green eyes.
"How 'bout you? How often do you have to duck those types, bein' a thief? Or is that part of why you do it - to get them to notice somethin' beyond the highfalutin'?"
no subject
Selina sounds thoughtful and maybe a little wistful - but just a little bit. "Sometimes I help. Sometimes I don't. And sometimes I leave my city and run into the people with powers."
no subject
"Any reason those power people don't come to your town."
no subject
There is another pause before she tries to explain it, "Take Scott and and Sherlock... and... hrmmmm." She pauses again and then smiles more brightly, "And Tony's ability for inventing and put them into one guy."
no subject
"You sure you're not lookin' at that guy through rose-colored goggles?"
no subject
no subject
"Sounds a bit less like Summers in that mix and more like a guy I know named Frank Castle. Ex-military, hunts and kills the law-skirtin' pricks who really deserve it. S'why they call him the Punisher."
He taps his chest. "Wears a shirt with a skull on it and everything, just to make 'em crap their pants first, too."

Not as though Logan hasn't had that war with himself ever since he came out of the wilderness.
"How's that workin' out for him?"
