005: [ visual ] chivalry isn't dead

Usually, Arthur is good with public speaking. He's made countless rousing speeches, and being a prince has meant a great deal of being thrust into centre stage. It's a bit different when you're talking into a funny little machine though, and you can't actually see the masses of people you're addressing. Still, when he speaks, it's with an even (and slightly regal) confidence.

"My name is Prince Arthur Pendragon of Camelot. There are a few of you with whom I've spoken, and many more I have not."

"I'm making this announcement because I seek the assistance of those who would protect this city from the dangers that all too frequently seem to assail it."

"My kingdom, at home, is protected by a force of knights. We work together to ensure the safety of our people, and to defend against attacks - be it from fell creatures or simple troublemakers."

"It is my goal to establish a force like that here in Taxon. Being a knight requires courage, fortitude and discipline. You need only respond if you possess these qualities. Some experience in combat would be desirable, but if you have none and still wish to serve, I would be prepared to teach you."

Arthur gets a grin out of Sam with this. Sam wants to be a good guy. He's just not always sure he is. "A sword? Nope. Big machete but somehow I don't think it's the same thing."

A pause.

"Have you ever used a flame thrower before?"

Because flamethrowers are fun. And effective against most things.

"We can begin training with a--" Arthur is mid-way through launching into a sword training session proposal, when he's distracted by Sam's question.

"--what's a flame thrower?"

...This will not end well.

"Like a gun... Or maybe a sword but you push a button and a six foot flame shoots out." Sam paused because he realized Arthur wouldn't know six feet. "As long as a man is tall."

The knights first job will be putting out the town because of the fire Sam and Arthur start.

"Sounds like it could take someone's eyebrows off if they weren't careful," he observes, sounding half-wary, half impressed and a little bit curious.

"Do you happen to own one?"

Taxon will never recover.

"More then just your eyebrows."

At Arthur's inquiry, a big grin spreads across Sam's face.

"I've got four of them. I replicated a small armory when I first got here."

A short pause as he considers the rest of his 'armory'. "Have you ever fired a gun?"

It's fairly simple but considering he's from medieval times it's a good question.

"Oh, you haven't seen an armory, until you've visited the Royal Chambers." Arthur grins, almost going misty-eyed just at the thought of all those swords and axes and lances and maces and other pointy things.

"...a gun? No, I don't believe I have." They are still a very long way from being invented.
