five | [Location: Levi's Mansion] | got my boots on, the right amount of leather

New Years Eve.

Levi is ready, decked out in his party suit, and a lot of makeup. He's just finished his preparations, and he's sitting in his living room, waiting patiently for Cordelia to arrive, and then the guests. Of course, the party isn't taking place in his living room. That's much too small for such a large event.

He's having a party in his basement.

His basement is huge, and he's decked it out in lights and such that he's hatched. All of it has a New Years theme, somehow; Levi's good at throwing parties, he knows how to decorate. The room is basically like a nightclub. It's dark, but clear of most beams and supports; there are couches and chairs, and a bar to the far end, stocked with just about every type of alcohol imaginable (as well as a few different types of blood). Here and there, there's potted plants and trees in clumps, as well as a giant throne, surrounded by those plants, further along on the back wall. There's also a large stage towards the middle, with a dancing space out in front of it. And right above the stage is a giant clock, which Levi had set up earlier for the countdown later that night.

As for music, he's got a whole playlist, just waiting to be started. It's a huge mix of things, from pop-y dance music to slow songs for the couples. There's a few setlists, of sorts, pinned to the walls and the bar.

It's about ten minutes before the party arrives, and Levi is waiting impatiently.

[[ooc: Vaguely organized planning post here! If there's a song you suggested and you want it to be played, it will be. Just handwave it. So yes! Have fun. :D

EDIT: Subthread labeled for the countdown to midnight is up! Grab your date and tag there for kissy tiemz. :3]

"I distinctly remember telling you to wear a tie!" That's about all the greeting you're getting Cam, apart from the accompanying disapproving and verging on actually pissed look.

Vala however, after trying on a myriad of dresses, has ended up going with safe, can't go wrong with a little black number after all.

((fff pic died, and I can't find the same one - imagine that as a short slinky dress though - simple but sexy with knee high black high heeled boots))

Really, Vala? You'd have gotten a severely dubious look if not for the close-to-anger bit. Cam had the good sense not to push her over if it could be avoided, however, so he just squinted at her a moment.

"New Years celebrations are casual, as a rule, Vala." Of course, some of the more outlandish, silvery creations other guests were wearing contested with his point, somewhat, but he hadn't spotted any ties yet. There was that.

It wasn't that he didn't look very nice, actually he looked pretty hot. But that wasn't the point. Vala stepped back and cocked her head to one side, giving him a proper once over, an expression that... well an expression that was clearly giving him a mental mark out of ten.

"I suppose you'll pass," she conceded not hesitating to gesture at her own outfit. Comment now please Mitchell, and make it good.

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
He nodded in general gratitude, the sort where a dubious compliment was appreciated even if it hadn't been prompted, before gesturing for her to spin around. At a glance, Vala looked more than appropriate for the general atmosphere of the party, and was, in fact, decently attractive in her chosen outfit.

Neither was a particular surprise, however, and neither meant very much without first making a point to check out her outfit. "Spin."
valaunbound: (Default)

[personal profile] valaunbound 2010-01-03 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Spinning was a request she was more than happy to oblige, tell Vala she looks great and you've got her eating out of your hand, or she thinks she has you eating out of her hand, but we quibble over points of view.

So Vala span, replete with hand on hip action as a flourish to the end. "Well?"

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
One would argue it involved which one was the more sincere in the gesture.

He nodded, and offered a slim sile. "Looks great. M'sure you'll knock em out tonight." Not that she needed fancy dresses for the unprepared. He'd seen her in action before.

[personal profile] valaunbound 2010-01-03 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
The compliment's reaction was all too fleeting, as it was quickly replaced with a much more puzzled look.

"Well I wasn't intending on knocking anybody out, I'm not entirely sure how effective I'd be at hand-to-hand combat in these shoes." Oh Vala, there'll always be the occasional Earth idiom you'll fail to get.

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
And here he'd been hoping it'd be good enough to unleash her on the unsuspecting crowd with. Not that he condoned such in general, but this was a special occasion, after all.

He shook his head, and his smile twisted wry. How to put it without a similarily confusing idiom? "They'll be eating out of your hand in no time." That one, at least, was self apparent.

[personal profile] valaunbound 2010-01-03 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh right." She grinned broadly. "You didn't mean actually knock them out, you meant..." It didn't really need finishing, she preferred not to linger when she tripped over phrases, anyway.

"Time for a drink, I think," and she grabbed Cam's wrist and started towards the bar... hopefully. It was by no means a gentle gesture.

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Although with Vala, it was always possible they could end up actually knocked out, too. Like, for instance, if her clone were wandering around somewhere, and someone confused the two. That was possible to end in some sort of violence, he was sure.

Generally speaking, Cam knew better than to question Vala's whims. The explanations never made sense, and he suspected many of them were done just for that reaction. Thus, when she yanked his arm forward, he chose to follow after, rather than wreck his wrist.

That she was dragging him along for a drink, though, gave him pause. "Y'know, I don't think they're charging anything I have useable credit for here, Vala." He doubted much of anything charged here, but if they did, Earth credit cards probably wouldn't cut it.
valaunbound: (Default)

[personal profile] valaunbound 2010-01-03 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
There was that, so far Vala had deliberately had nothing to do with her clone despite being aware of her. Whilst the possibilities back in her old life (and by that she means pre-SG-1) were endless, I mean how convenient would it be to be able to use her as an alibi or a decoy? Here she served little purpose save for annoying her because she shared the same incredible body and good looks. We'll see how that goes...

"Cameron!" She stopped mid-step and turned back to him. "I'm shocked that you'd think I'd only want to have a drink with you so that you paid. Do you really see me as that shallow?" Well so far the reaction seemed genuine enough, possibly even hurt.

Until she finished it up with, "I just don't want to stand on my own while I decide who's worth my time. It's too obvious when you're alone."

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Cam would have called it...prudent. Not shallow. Apparently his role as designated arm candy--as that was about what he figured his role in being dragged here was--would be more extensive than rescuing her from boring conversations and paying her way.

The fact that he had nothing better to do did not spare her the skeptical frown. "Right. The bar's a good view for that?"

[personal profile] valaunbound 2010-01-03 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Well everybody visits it at some point, and you can tell alot about a person by what they drink, not to mention how bored they are by their current company."

Before she'd barely finished the sentence she resumed with tugging him that way.

"Besides," Vala added nonchalantly over her shoulder, "do you have any idea how long it is since I last had sex?!"

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
It did beg the question of whether people observe right back at her. Or whether they might decide he was the one who needed rescuing. Which he didn't, really. He was just fine devoting the few minutes it would take for someone to catch Vala's eye at the bar.

It was deciding what to do afterward that he was skeptical about. But he'd cross that bridge when he came to it.

For now, he'd settle with throwing her a sideways look. As sideways as being dragged along made capable. "Why would I know?"
valaunbound: (Default)

[personal profile] valaunbound 2010-01-04 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Vala shrugged and rolled her eyes as if that was the most asinine comment ever made. "Well, I wouldn't blame you for taking a keen interest."

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
He squinted at the woman for a moment. "That's not the sort of information I keep up on." He stopped short of saying 'trivia', because that just produced strange images in his head, even thinking it.

"Your loss then," she smirked, satisfied that he really was curious and just denying it for professionalism's sake.

"You know, I'm still sure I hooked up with someone on the Odyssey." Then she turned with a flourish to walk the last few feet to the bar, seemingly disinterested in his reaction but smiling to herself that she probably induced some sort of flustered response.

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
...Wait what?

It took him a few moments to make the connection between Vala 'hooking up' with someone, and the Odyssey. He'd made such an effort to not compare his situation with that nightmare Teal'c had mentioned, that it'd been pretty fair out of his mind.

Which probably said something about her mental state. He'd address that later.

For now, he settled with staring at her retreating form. Hard.

Cam shook his head after a moment, and trailed after her, not quite slouching against the bar. "How long does this hunting process take?"
valaunbound: (Default)

[personal profile] valaunbound 2010-01-05 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
"So far? Eight months. You should sit down."

She didn't mean it to come out quite so abrasive, she even knew as soon as she'd said it, that there were countless other responses she could have given him that would have been far more jovial, perhaps even cracked a smile.

"I don't know," Vala offered up slightly irritated that she'd been so quick to snap, "usually I go for who's got the most money. Seems irrelevant here in Taxon, though." There was always power though, well something had to make this place interesting after all.

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
The flicker of expression after her words held his immediate response in check, but she still got the accompanying expression. Which ranked somewhere along 'youre joking'.

He didn't actually sit down, though. Not yet. He could save the sitting for when he was ready to drink--which was apparently something that he'd eventually get to tonight.

He tossed Vala another sidelong glance, as he not-quite-slouched against the bar. "Where I come from, sometimes people look for the attractive ones." Also, the nice ones, but she'd made it clear what she thought of 'nice' dance partners.
valaunbound: (Default)

[personal profile] valaunbound 2010-01-05 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
'Yes well, look where that's got me', she thought rather than said, although her expression might as well have said it.

"How about you then?" She was keen to change the focus of the conversation as she reached over and helped herself to a bottle of... well it didn't really matter what it was, did it? But she was filling two rocks glasses with it none-the-less.

"Anyone catch your eye?"

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
He blinked over at her question. He was going to go with a general assessment of his time in Taxon, rather than the bar itself. Given that he hadn't had time at the party itself.

The answer was no, obviously.

He shrugged. "Well...there was one woman with silver skin." He tossed her a wry smile. Just in case she actually thought he was serious, despite his tone. "But M'pretty sure that's not what you mean."
valaunbound: (Default)

[personal profile] valaunbound 2010-01-05 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
The tongue-in-cheek humor was appreciated and she laughed as she slid over one of the glasses.

"Jack Daniel's, apparently." She noted, tilting the bottle to read the label. "I'm sure he won't mind, though."

Vala's was knocked back in one, hardened liquor drinking talents not being reserved for later. This was going to be a long night Cam. Vala was only warming up.

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
In fact, he'd gotten a few chuckles out of that drink before. Sometimes at Jackson's expense. He flashed her a briefly amused smile, but if it was going to be a long night, then apparently he'd be keeping an eye on her. So she didn't embarass herself on New Years Eve.

"You know you're supposed to use a glass with those."

"Really? Seems like a lot of unnecessary extra work, all that decanting business."

And that pretty much set the tone for the evening.
