II: [ Accidental Voice ] Magic Hour

[ There's a sound of pages rustling. With everything that has happened in Taxon - dangerous vampires running amok, crazy people bombing everything regardless of intentions or who they'd hurt - Piper feels as though she should do something. She consults The Book of Shadows and while she's not sure it will work, she decides to give it a try. ]

In this night and in this hour
I call upon the Ancient Power
Heed my words, I beseech thee.

In this circle that is our home
protect us from the evils that roam
And ensure our safety.

[ she waits for something to happen - but after a pathetic puff of smoke in the air, nothing did. She sighs.] Right. Of course that won't work.

[ she shoots a very dirty look at the tablet, not knowing that somehow it was on the whole time. ]

"Mmhmm, 'Ancient Power' is a bit general, I'd say. There's all sorts of ancient powers and you want to make sure you're getting on the blower with the right sort? Protection is all fine and dandy until you end up with Huitzilopochtli, who -- don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy -- but tends toward being a little more intense than your average person wants to deal with."

[ it all makes perfect sense, actually. Piper nods - not that the man can see it - but one thing isn't clear yet. ]

Well, it may be a bit general but it did work for us before and... um, who are you?

Tara is in the castle, which is presumably where Piper is too, but she doesn't want to show up to the other woman's room uninvited. But she is relieved to see the other woman got out in one piece. Shyly, she turns her tablet on and says, "S-so you got out of the castle okay?"

"Tara!" She fiddles with her tablet and shifts it to visual mode, before giving the woman a full-blown grin. "Yes, I did - thanks to you. And I'm relieved that you did, too."

She smiles and nods. "With a little help, yes. It was a crazy day, I think."

She shakes her head and looks away for a moment. "It really was," Piper agrees. "Although I guess it's over now. And the strange part is, everything is back to the way it was before. It's like... nothing happened."

I was... [ oh, what the heck. ] Trying to cast a protection spell.

[ it's more than what she's able to do, and she had to admit that she's a bit envious of the people who can use magic to protect themselves. back at home, she'd always been a bit skeptical of things like magic, but here, she couldn't deny it. ]

How do you know it didn't work? Maybe it's one of those things that's more...subtle.

[ no words, just the sound of golf-clapping. ]

[ unlike most who are off hiding in corners and behind secure walls from this vampire threat, siri is sitting quite comfortably in the forest; the sound of wind blowing through trees and your usual forest-y noises can be heard in the background. she's not afraid of this vampire and quite frankly, dares him to try-- not that she figures he has any interest in her. ]

Although DG wasn't familiar with the chanting branch of magic, she recognised Piper's voice and it wasn't difficult to put two and two together.

"How does it work?"

It was definitely an interesting idea. After what had happened to Glitch, DG was willing to trying anything that might be able to make sure that nobody else got hurt.

She gave DG a small smile as her way of greeting, before nodding. "It's more of... a spell that's supposed to protect the place where we live in. But I guess..." Piper ran a hand through her hair. "It's either the castle is too big, or I'm not strong enough to cast the spell on my own. Maybe both."

"Or maybe you won't knows it's worked until someone blows up something else?" DG suggested. It didn't sound like the sort of spell you could test. How would you know if it had worked or not?

Then, with a frown of confusion, she added: "You live in a castle?"

[Laughter, the cackling kind that is definitely making fun of someone, can be heard first before Ruby gets a hold of herself to speak.]

Needs a little more sacrifice, a little less...sappiness. Some Latin wouldn't hurt either.
